Wolf alumni reunite at college track meet

Wolves may wander, but ultimately, they come back together.

Coupeville grads Tate Wyman and Logan Martin attend different colleges, but Saturday they were both in Clackamas for the Larry Byerly Invite.

Wyman, a freshman at Oregon Tech, ran in the 110 hurdles and 200, setting a PR in the latter and just missing a PR in the former.

He hit the tape in 23.66 seconds in the 200 and zipped across the line in 16.53 in the hurdles, just shy of his collegiate best of 16.51.

Meanwhile, Martin, a sophomore at Central Washington University, chucked the discus 130 feet, 10 inches. finishing 15th out of 48 competitors.

That came on the heels of a fourth-place finish in the hammer the day before.

Martin actually pulled double duty Saturday, competing while also assisting keeping field events humming along.

“They actually took his construction management skills and put him to work to help figure out the measuring system,” said dad Bob. “He’s working and throwing today.”

Wolf grads sparkle across the USA

Two on the track, one on the water.

Coupeville High School alumni were busy Saturday, competing in college sports events around the country.

How they did:

 

Taygin Jump:

A freshman at Plattsburgh State, she competed at the Pioneer Spring Invite in Utica, scoring points for her team in the hammer throw.

Jump tossed the implement 37.30 meters to claim seventh place, while also lobbing the shot put 8.62 meters.

If there was an extra skip in her step, it’s because the former Wolf was recently honored as one of Plattsburgh’s Cardinals of the Week.

The honor was for Jump’s performance at the Saints Icebreaker meet March 30, where she won both the hammer and javelin.

 

Lucy Sandahl:

The Seattle Pacific University senior was in the varsity 8+ boat as coxswain as the Falcon rowers plied the water at the Pioneer/Pilot Invitational in Vancouver, Washington.

The day’s racing was shortened by weather which caused rough conditions, but SPU was strong in all four of its events.

Sandahl and company competed against Great Northwest Athletic Conference rivals Western Washington and Cal Poly Humboldt.

 

Tate Wyman:

The former Wolf, now a freshman at Oregon Tech, set PRs in both of his events at the Humboldt Invitational in Arcata, California.

Wyman hit the tape in 16.51 seconds in the 110 hurdles, claiming third place, then finished 12th (out of 26 competitors) in the 200 in 23.85.

Wolf grads captivate college crowds

They’ve gone to a higher level but are still making headlines.

Three Coupeville High School grads pulled on college athletic uniforms Saturday, continuing to provide an inspiration to current Wolves.

From track meets to rowing regattas, here’s what they were up to:

 

Logan Martin:

Now a sophomore at Central Washington University, he was busy throwing things far away at the Oregon Preview in Eugene.

Martin opened with a strong sixth place finish in the hammer throw (out of 15 competitors) Friday.

His throw landed 173 feet, one inch away from where he let it go.

Saturday, Martin was back at it, launching the shot put 42-01.25 to claim 12th place.

Lucy Sandahl:

The former Wolf celebrated Senior Day with four fellow Seattle Pacific University rowing teammates at the Falcon Regatta.

Facing off with the University of Washington and the top two NCAA D-II teams — the University of Central Oklahoma and Cal Poly Humboldt — on the L.W. Ship Canal, the Falcons more than held their own.

Sandahl was the coxswain in two boats, guiding her 4+ boat to a win and her 8+ boat to a second-place finish.

Tate Wyman:

Now a freshman at Oregon Tech, he participated in his school’s first home meet in 12 years.

The event went down in Klamath Falls on a “spring” day that was a test of everyone’s soul.

Enduring wind, rain, hail, and cold temps, Wyman ran in both the 110 hurdles and on a 4 x 100 relay team.

Wolf grads soar at next level

All around the world, the Wolves were howling.

Four different Coupeville High School grads were in action at the next level this weekend, with action going down in three sports and on two continents.

What was happening:

 

Logan Martin:

Now a sophomore track and field star at Central Washington University, he claimed a pair of top-three finishes at the PLU Open in Tacoma.

Martin finished second in the hammer throw Friday, tossing the implement 176 feet, nine inches, then came back around Saturday to earn third in the shot put with a throw of 42-8.75.

 

Dominic Coffman:

The 2023 CHS grad is playing semi-pro football in Spain, and he rushed for 150 yards and a pair of touchdowns Saturday as the Las Rozas Black Demons won 44-13.

That gives the former Wolf four scores across the past two games for a gridiron squad which is now 6-0 on the season.

 

Tate Wyman:

The Oregon Tech freshman ran in two track events Saturday at the Pacific Northwest Invite in Corvallis.

Wyman placed seventh in the 110 hurdles in 19.13 seconds, and 17th in the 200, where he set a PR with a time of 24.42.

 

Caleb Meyer:

The former Wolf saw his basketball career at Skagit Valley College end Saturday, with the Cardinals falling 79-77 to Tacoma in an overtime thriller in the semifinals of the Northwest Athletic Conference tourney.

SVC finished 26-6 as Meyer saw court time in 20 games during his sophomore campaign.

Tate wasn’t late

Competing in his second indoor collegiate track and field meet Saturday, Coupeville High School grad Tate Wyman set PRs in both of his events.

The former Wolf finished fourth in the 60 hurdles, hitting the tape in 9.61 seconds, then claimed 10th in the 200 in 24.96.

Wyman, a freshman at Oregon Tech, was competing at the Eastern Oregon Last Chance Meet in La Grande.

There’s one indoor meet left on the schedule, then the Owls head outdoors starting March 16.

During his time at CHS, Tate, son of running coach Amber Wyman, competed in cross country and track and field.

The older brother of current Wolf athletic stars Ayden and Devon, he was part of a 4 x 100 relay team which finished second at the state championship meet his senior season.
