Everything’s coming up Roses!!

The best photo ever taken of a girl who has no freakin’ clue she’s about to be pick-pocketed by the incoming Lauren Rose.

There was too much awesomeness to contain in one body, so they split into Wonder Twins.

Lauren and Kayla Rose may only be freshmen at Coupeville High School, but the duo, who celebrate a joint birthday today, are already stars.

If there has ever been a moment in their young lives when they weren’t smiling, I have yet to see it.

Whether competing for the Wolves, cheering for each other and their classmates, or bouncing through the stands, harassing their parents for snack money, the Rose sisters are whirlwinds of joy and positive energy exploding across the universe.

Both played volleyball for CHS, while Lauren is a three-sport dynamo, adding in basketball and softball to the mix.

Of course, both are more than mere athletes, coming off as smart-as-a-whip, friendly, outgoing young women.

Whether Lauren is gunning down would-be base stealers who foolishly dare to run on her arm from behind the plate, or Kayla is snapping photos, they are a pair to make Coupeville proud.

Plus, unlike the equally awesome Luvera twins, Ana and Ivy (sorry girls), I can actually tell them apart, which is super helpful.

For me, at least…

As the Roses celebrate today, I want to wish both of them the best. May you have much cake as you kick-off another year together.

Two bright, shining stars twinkling, not in the skies above, but right here among us in Cow Town.

Big runs, big guns!!

Shake it up and see what happens.

Experimenting a bit with its lineup Monday, the South Central Sox little league softball team moved Coupeville’s Sarah Wright from catcher to pitcher for a couple of innings.

Regardless of where you plug her in, Wright sparkled as usual, but not even her hurling or Veronica Crownover’s red-hot bat could save the Sox, who fell 9-5 to visiting South Skagit.

The Sox are primarily a South end-based squad, but feature four Coupeville players (Wright, Crownover, Tamika Nastali and Ema Smith), and the Wolves had a solid impact on the game.

Crownover thumped a two-run triple into deep left and made a series of nice grabs at first to put the final stamp on outs.

Nastali laced a single while Wright, once she had finished her time in the pitcher’s circle, went back to gunnin’ down fools from behind the plate.

The CMS 8th grader yanked out the bazooka late in the game and cracked off a throw to third that nailed a potential stealer.

The would-be thief left the field dazed, confused and possibly scarred emotionally for life while Wright calmly re-holstered like a Western gunfighter, slight smile on her face.

The Sox get right back at it with a game in Oak Harbor Wednesday.

You’ve been Hammered!!

Lauren Rose, having recovered from this dusty encounter in an earlier game, knocked in a pair of runs Thursday.

Hailey Hammer’s bat just melted.

Pounded the snot out of the ball all day long, the Coupeville High School senior put together a nine RBI afternoon Thursday, sparking the Wolves to a 20-4 romp over host Klahowya.

Hammer’s offensive explosion, which included a grand slam that cleared the fence and is still bouncing down the interstate, helped Coupeville improve to 6-10.

The Wolves finished their first go-round in the 1A Olympic League at 5-4 and will claim third place and a trip to the playoffs.

Before they get there, however, they have three non-conference games that were rained out to make-up — at South Whidbey (May 15) and Meridian (May 18) and home against La Conner (May 19).

Klahowya (6-2) and Chimacum (6-2), who have split their first two meetings, face-off Tuesday to determine the league champ.

The Eagles, who were without their top pitcher Thursday, will need to regroup after taking a shellacking from the Wolves.

“Everyone hit today and made it on base,” said CHS coach Deanna Rafferty.”It was a great offensive game.”

The few times Hammer didn’t pick up the RBI, everyone else chipped in.

Freshmen Lauren Rose and Katrina McGranahan had two each, while Tiffany Briscoe, McKayla Bailey, Kailey Kellner and Jae LeVine knocked in a run apiece.

McGranahan whiffed seven batters, and the few times the Eagles made contact against her, the Wolf defense flagged most things down.

Briscoe got web gem honors with a deep catch in left.

“It was a great way to finish league play,” Rafferty said. “I’m proud of my girls, they played with grace and sportsmanship.”

Tools of the trade, they come in many, many colors.

Every helmet has its own story to tell.

Triple triples.

Sarah Wright enjoys the three-bagger so much, she went out and nabbed three of them Monday.

The Coupeville Middle School eighth grader went wild with the bat, as she and her fellow Wolves paced the South Central Sox little league softball squad to a 16-4 win over host South Skagit Lightning.

While an 8-5 loss at Oak Harbor Wednesday gave the Sox — which draws players from Coupeville and South Whidbey — a split on the week, the offensive power show was all the talk.

Wright, who had played five games in two days over the weekend while at a select team tourney in Selah, was en fuego at the plate.

Playing under constant threat of cold rain, she bashed triples in the first, fourth and fifth innings.

Keeping pace, fellow Wolves Ema Smith (two singles, a stolen base), Tamika Nastali (single, stolen base) and Veronica Crownover (three singles, two stolen bases) all chipped in to the hitting clinic.

The victory and the hot hitting made up for the weather conditions.

“It was cold and it was wet … but fun was had by all; these two teams really enjoy competing against each other,” said softball mom Kelly Crownover.

The Wolf contingent was still on point against Oak Harbor, even though their team wasn’t able to pull out the win.

Wright slammed a double, then picked up two more singles and a stolen base, while Nastali had a stolen base and Crownover rapped out a single.

Here come the playoffs.

As the regular seasons begin to wind down, every one of the Coupeville High School spring sports teams is postseason-bound.

1A Olympic League rivals Port Townsend and Chimacum can’t say that, but CHS, the little school that could, has matched Klahowya by advancing girls’ tennis, boys’ soccer, baseball, track and softball to the next level of play.

Toss in golf, where Christine Fields is a one-woman Wolf wrecking crew, and Coupeville is 6-for-6.
