Kiara Contreras and Co. set a season-best Tuesday in the 4 x 100. (Photos by JohnsPhotos.net)

Carolyn Lhamon came from behind to win the 800.

“The CMS Wolves ran like the Sequim wind.”

Coupeville Middle School track coaches Elizabeth Bitting, Jon Gabelein and Larry Hurlburt have put a lot of time and effort into teaching their young athletes, and it’s paying off big time.

Competing in the final regular-season meet Tuesday, a three-team rumble with Forks and host Sequim, CMS threw down multiple PR’s and captivated their coaches.

“The boys and girls threw further, jumped higher, ran faster, and/or jumped farther than ever before,” Gabelein said. “Our athletes continue to refine their craft.

“I wish there were several more weeks left for them to enjoy the results of hard work during outings like this.”

The Wolves host the Olympic League Championships May 23, an event which brings together the six conference schools for the final time.

And it’s not just a season-capper, but a farewell, as Coupeville jumps to the new North Sound Conference next fall for both high school and middle school sports.

Tuesday’s meet included big moments for both individuals, such as Carolyn Lhamon passing the leader in the final steps to win the 800, and for teams.

Both of Coupeville’s girls relay teams shattered their season-best times.

“With so many PR’s, improvement is being generated team-wide,” Gabelein said. “They may be discovering that the faster they run, the faster they’re done.”

It’s not over till they publish the stats.

While the season ended Saturday for the Coupeville High School baseball team, the afterglow of a very-strong 15-6 run, which included a second Olympic League crown in three seasons, lingers.

Now, thanks to CHS coach Chris Smith and his dedicated book-keepers, you can marinate in the deep end of the stats pool.

Want to know Jake Hoagland’s on-base percentage or how many strikeouts Dane Lucero recorded while on the mound? Here you go.

And PS, it was .387 and 24, for those with limited time to poke around in the numbers.

For everyone else, dive in.

Want to run track for Randy King, or play any of a billion other sports at CHS or CMS? You need a physical. (Photo by JohnsPhotos.net)

Want a sports physical, but don’t want to go out of your way to set up an appointment with a doctor?

The Coupeville Booster Club is here to make things easy for you with an event May 22 at the high school gym.

Tentatively called “Night of 1,000 Physicals” (OK, I made that part up…), the event runs from 6-9 PM and is open to all CMS and CHS athletes.

Cost is $45 and proceeds will fund a needs-based college scholarship for a CHS athlete, which will be awarded May 2019.

Cash, debit cards and checks are all accepted.

You need to sign up prior to the event, and can do so at:

When you pop over there, you’ll also find a health history form to fill out and bring with you.

Time for a little spring cleaning.

As the season winds down, I’m going through head shots snapped by John Fisken and trying to make sure 99.3% of them get used.

The eight above, covering softball, baseball and boys soccer, are ones that, for whatever reason, had yet to see the light of day.

Before you ask, there are no tennis pics because it’s a smaller team and I already used all their head shots.

And track? It’s a bigger team and no one snapped head shots, so I can’t use something I never had.

Turn the page, it’s time to start a new season.

As the Coupeville High School softball team prepares for the district tourney, which goes down May 18-19, one thing hangs around, though.

That’s the stats piled up by the Wolves through the first 18 games of the season.

With the postseason coming up fast, a look at the latest sweet statsy stats, as compiled by CHS coaches and posted on MaxPreps:
