One a newbie, one a veteran, both rockin’ the camera.

The pics above and below are courtesy CHS students Sophia Broderick — making her debut as a photographer on Coupeville Sports — and Bailey Thule, who has been an MVP behind the lens.

Their work here captures their fellow classmates on the volleyball court, and is greatly appreciated.

The spikes fly and the celebrations are unleashed.

Of all the high school sports, volleyball is one of the most likely to feature foot-stomping, high-fiving, team-wide joy sessions after successful plays.

Some of those scenes of the Wolves going wild are included here, along with some action pics, and even a stare o’ death or two.

As Coupeville prepares to return to its home court Wednesday for a matchup with Neah Bay (3:30 JV in the CMS gym, 5:00 varsity in the CHS gym), marinate in the moments.

Lyla Stuurmans is pleased to see her favorite photographer is working courtside. (Bailey Thule photos)

Crowd work is an underrated art.

Get yourself a photographer who can capture fans and players in the moments between the action, going below the surface to capture that inner light, and you’ve got yourself a keeper.

Like Bailey Thule, who delivers the portraits seen above and below.

Wolf cheerleaders bond. (Delanie Lewis photo)

Students snapping students.

With Coupeville Sports in its 10th year of existence, you always want to find new ways to keep things evolving.

Thanks to Coupeville High School yearbook teacher Jackie Saia and her student photographers, we’ve been able to run more photos from different sources than normal.

And, when it’s teenagers behind the camera, and teenagers in front of the camera, as in these Wolf cheer pics, there’s often a different feel to the photos, I’ve found.

There’s less of a remove than what you sometimes get when the photographer is an adult, and the pics seem to capture a different side of the athletes.

At least that’s what I think.
