The forecast is for soccer balls to rain down.

All together the Wolf booters have racked up 69 scores and counting, with junior Edmund Wilson leading the way.

Both CHS squads have two games on the schedule this week, with the girls playing La Conner and East Jefferson, while the boys square off with Providence Classical Christian and Crosspoint Christian, providing ample opportunity to spike the numbers higher.

Landon Roberts prepares to bring the heat. (Photo courtesy Jon Roberts)

The lanky lefty is still dealin’.

Coupeville grad Landon Roberts is currently playing fall ball with the Walla Walla College baseball squad and put together a stellar inning of work Friday.

He’s participating in a “friendly” Black vs. Gold World Series in a best-of-five rumble in which the team is split in half.

With each pitcher on the roster given a frame to work, Roberts faced four batters, whiffing three of them to help stake his guys to a 2-1 lead in the face-off.

The former Wolf, a three-sport star and CHS Athlete of the Year winner, is in his second season at Walla Walla.

Fall ball wraps up at the end of the month, with the Warriors returning to full-time action again next spring.

According to the team website, the first game against Blue Mountain is a mere 124 days away.

Finley Helm rules the awards podium. (Photos courtesy Jerry Helm)

Finley Helm is busy, but she still has time to give you a beat-down.

The Coupeville High School freshman, who anchors the Wolf girls’ soccer team with her work as goaltender, is also an accomplished taekwondo artist.

Her latest feat?

Traveling over the border to Canada, where Helm earned a gold medal in both traditional and combat sparring.

Hanging out with her fellow warriors.

Which should serve as a subtle warning to any rival booters who want to come crashing into her box during the next soccer game.

Do so, and prepare to face the wrath of these hands o’ death!

Or a big smile and a pat on the head, cause Finley is just that nice.

The taste of victory.

The spikers trek off to La Conner Tuesday for a conference rumble, before hosting non-league rival Forks Friday night.

Wolf freshman Kamden Ratcliff tossed a touchdown pass Saturday and kicked a PAT. (Jackie Saia photo)

They met in the middle.

Coupeville and Medical Lake, two high schools separated by 319 miles, convened in Leavenworth Saturday for a football game in which both teams were far away from home.

And while the contest was close in the early going, the Cardinals pulled away from the Wolves thanks to forcing four turnovers en route to a 33-7 victory.

The non-conference loss, coming against a school which Coupeville has little to no history with, drops Bennett Richter’s squad to 1-5 on the season heading into the regular season finale.

That’s set to go down on Friday Harbor next Friday, October 23, and will determine the Wolves postseason status.

Win and CHS earns a season split with the Wolverines (4-2) and will force a tiebreaker mini game to decide which 2B school from the Northwest 2B/1B League advances to the playoffs.

Lose and it’s a wrap for Coupeville, barring coaches and administrators choosing to pick up a crossover game with another team eliminated from postseason contention.

Saturday’s clash was marked by turnovers, with the Wolves losing two fumbles — one of which was brought back for a Medical Lake touchdown — and two interceptions.

On the defensive side of the ball, Coupeville senior Davin Houston made his presence felt, picking off a pass and recovering a fumble to keep his team in the game.

Medical Lake, after opening the scoring with that fumble recovery touchdown in the first quarter, added two more scores in the second frame on runs.

Up 20-0 at the half, the Cardinals tacked on six more points in the third, before Coupeville finally got on the board early in the fourth.

Freshman quarterback Kamden Ratcliff lofted a 24-yard scoring strike to receiver Carson Grove, with the latter hitting paydirt for the first time this season.

The young Wolf gunslinger added a successful PAT kick to round out Coupeville’s scoring, before Medical Lake, now 2-5 on the season, iced the game with a final touchdown on a 32-yard rush to daylight.
