Appreciate Coupeville teachers? Next week is your time to show it.

Whether you want to honor elementary school knowledge givers or their counterparts at the middle/high school, there will be plenty of opportunities.

The elementary school PTA will be showering teachers every day but need some parental help.

Meanwhile, parents are also raising funds for a CMHS staff lunch catered by Sunshine Drip.

The goal is to have $1,100 by May 5.

Sluggers, fans KO cancer

They’re united in the fight.

Coupeville and Forks softball players, coaches, and fans came together Saturday for a doubleheader on the prairie, with the Wolves sweeping two from the visiting Spartans.

But the day was about more than just on-field action, as the CHS diamond program held its annual Strike Out Cancer event.

There was a raffle for gift baskets, emotional words from Wolf players Danica Strong, Madison McMillan, and Mia Farris dedicated to family members touched by the disease, and a free barbecue lunch for everyone.

Some of the gift baskets up for grabs in the raffle.

Each Coupeville player took the field wearing socks which represented a different form of cancer, which they acknowledged during the break between games.

All total, the Wolf and Spartan backers combined to raise $1,603.42 for the fight against cancer, with the money going to WhidbeyHealth.

CHS assistant coach Michelle Armstrong, who was also celebrating her birthday, was a driving force behind the event, but she wanted to take a moment to thank everyone involved.

Time for another paddlin’

The first one was a smashing success, so they’re returning for another go-round.

The Community Foundation for Coupeville Public Schools will host a Pickleball FUNdraiser Round Robin Social May 10, with proceeds benefitting local students.

All the action will unfold at the Coupeville High School gym. Doors open at 10:30 AM, with matches starting at 11:15 and ending around 4:00 PM.

A round robin format will be used, with everyone guaranteed at least five matches.

Signups will be limited to 24 two-person teams.

If you have a pickleball racket, bring it with you.

If not, there will be a few that can be borrowed. If you’re going that route, let them know when you signup.

The event is open to all ability levels.

“This a social, a fundraiser, and a chance to get a little exercise while benefitting a great non-profit organization!” said organizer James Steller.

Lunch (including smashburgers), snacks, and drinks will be available, with proceeds adding to the fundraising.

There will also be a raffle, with a “a three-night stay in a great two-bedroom condo at the Sun Peaks, British Columbia resort during the summer of 2025” being the big prize.

With the money it raises each year, the Community Foundation for Coupeville Public Schools provides enrichment grants for teachers and scholarships for students.
