OK, life isn’t always fair.

We’re starting off with that because I have 25 portraits of Coupeville High School cheerleaders and not enough room to run all of them at one time.

I mean, I have the room (it’s the internet, there are no page lengths), but very few people will scroll through that epic a story.

Most of my photo essays are a crisp six to eight photos, which has seemed to be the ideal length for readers.

Enough pics to feel like you got your money’s worth (even though you viewed this page for free…), without total brain overload.

So, I tried to make things as equal as possible by tossing the numbers 1-25 in a random number generator and letting the whims of fate pick who gets their glossy portraits on the internet this fine day.

Truth be told, at some point this season all of the portraits will appear, so, for those who didn’t make the cut (as selected by sheer randomness), your time will come.

And after all, photo #4 is a team photo, so you’re all there anyway.

It was fandemonium.

Saturday’s home football opener brought out a huge chunk of Coupeville, from current students to alumni, Booster Club bigwigs to the working media.

Wanderin’ paparazzi John Fisken fired off a few hundred photos to capture the off-field scene, which I’ve culled down to a reasonable eight or so for the moment.

Jump in, and come out as happy as the Wolf faithful were after a 41-10 demolishing of Island arch-rival South Whidbey.

It was pretty much a perfect storm.

Coupeville unleashed a big-play offense, matched it with a ferocious, pedal-to-the-metal defense and destroyed arch-rival South Whidbey 41-10 Saturday night.

As they brought The Bucket back home, the Wolves did so under the watchful eye of wanderin’ paparazzi John Fisken, who provides us with the pics seen above.

Coupeville may be one of the smallest 1A schools in the state, but its spikers showed no fear Saturday, facing off with two huge schools at a season-opening jamboree.

Host Oak Harbor is a 3A school, while Mt. Vernon calls 4A home.

Whatever they lacked in numbers, the Wolves made up in grit and hustle.

“We did well – I’m very optimistic about our starting point this early in the season,” said CHS coach Cory Whitmore. “It was great to get playing someone other than each other and come together to showcase what we’ve worked hard on so far.”

As the Wolves sparred with the Wildcats and Bulldogs, they stayed focused on the areas their first-year head coach had outlined for them.

“I was happy that we left each game with something specific we improved upon,” Whitmore said. “Our passing was a big focus and by the end that was a skill I felt like saw the most growth.”

Coupeville got plenty of floor time, with both its varsity and JV getting two matches each.

“We remained competitive with everyone; we even took a game from Oak Harbor,” Whitmore said. “I’m pleased with the two squads’ baseline that we set today.

“Now it’s about taking steps forward in each contest and practice.”

The Wolves open regular season play Tuesday (4:30 JV/6:00 varsity), with the first of five straight home matches.

Their foe on opening night is Mount Vernon Christian, which went 18-5 and finished fourth at state in 1B last season.
