Coupeville coach Luke Samford imparts some pre-race wisdom.

Alana Mihill is in the zone.

Mitchell Hall can hear the footsteps behind him, but there’s no way he’s letting anyone pass him.

Sam Wynn leads a pack on the homeward stretch.

And they’re off.

Everyone got to stretch their legs.

The Coupeville High School cross country squad ran as a team in competition for the final time Saturday, at the District 1 meet in Langley.

With Oak Harbor and South Whidbey also running on the same day, with the Wildcats in the 3A race and the Falcons joining the Wolves in the 1A rumble, that got photo whiz kid John Fisken to make the trek down Island, as well.

The photos above capture Coupeville harriers in action, but are just the tip of what he shot.

The games are done, the uniforms have been turned in, and, now, the final photos hit the internet.

The Coupeville High School football team finished 5-4 in 2019, the first winning record for a Wolf gridiron squad since 2005.

Along the way, we used a lot of pics, but I still find myself sitting with a collection of portraits shot in the preseason by John Fisken.

Today, those photos run free.

No photo goes unused.

As each season plays out, local photographer John Fisken generally sends me head shot portraits of most, if not all, of Coupeville High School’s athletes.

How they’re used depends on the flow of the season, who has a strong game, who fits a certain story, etc.

Having reached the end of the CHS girls soccer season, I find myself with six portraits I haven’t used, so today you get a final smorgasbord of pitch-y pics.

Sean “The Torpedo” Toomey-Stout explodes, sending a fumble flying to the skies.

Dakota Eck slices through the defense.

Gavin Knoblich wrestles down the Anacortes QB before he can get his pass off.

No one escapes from Gavin St Onge. No one.

Andrew Martin fights through the defense on his way to a 137-yard, three-touchdown night.

Toomey-Stout climbs the ladder to pull in a catch.

Wolf managers Brenna Silveira (left) and Melanie Navarro get photo-bombed by head coach Marcus Carr.

Friday Night Lights shine, and the cameras pop.

Visiting Cow Town for an evening, John Fisken was on hand Friday for Coupeville’s 18-6 waxing of visiting Anacortes, and the pics above are courtesy him.

Coupeville’s girls attack as a pack.

The trail is never-ending, and so are the photos.

As the Coupeville High School cross country squad winds its way through the final weeks of the season, Lakewood was the destination this past Saturday, with the league title on the line.

Popping up, camera at the ready, was John Fisken, who wandered off of Whidbey for the day in search of photo ops.

The pics above are courtesy him, but are just the start of what he shot.
