Jamboree season is upon us.

As high school teams head towards the start of regular-season play, many of them are getting in some work in live action scenarios.

Coupeville High School football went first last weekend, volleyball heads to Oak Harbor Saturday, but Thursday was all about the booters.

The Wolf girls soccer squad and coach Kyle Nelson traveled up Island to Memorial Stadium, where they faced off with league rival South Whidbey and host Oak Harbor.

Popping in from his home in the big city, wanderin’ photo god John Fisken was on scene and captured the images seen above.

The stars of tomorrow light up the gym today.

Catch a rising star, as freshman Anya Leavell makes her CHS debut.

It’s a four-pack of hard-court killers, featuring (l to r) Emma Mathusek, Toomey-Stout, Ashley Menges, and Scout Smith.

Straight to the top, that’s where the Wolf varsity is headed.

Following the path of All-Universe libero Valen Trujillo, lil’ sis Zoe Trujillo (2) is the new center of attention.

They’re back for an encore.

Last season, the Coupeville High School volleyball squad cracked the code, advancing to state for the first time in 13 years.

Now, after back-to-back conference titles in the Olympic League, the Wolf spikers are off to the new North Sound Conference to liven up the joint with a heady mix of spikes and aces.

Before they kick off the new season, however, the Wolves paused for a few moments to nab their share of the photographic spotlight.

Football is first up.

The fall sports season officially kicks off Friday, when the Coupeville High School gridiron squad heads to Port Townsend for a non-conference game.

Kick-off is 7 PM on the mainland and the Wolves enter the new season with a small, but scrappy, 19-man crew.

As you count down the hours, take a gander at the few, the brave, the committed.

They’re ready to swing into action.

The first boys tennis match of the fall is a week away, and Coupeville’s netters are hard at work prepping for that royal rumble in Langley.

In between sharpening their serves and honing their net games, the Wolves stopped long enough to let a wanderin’ photo clicker snap their pics, immortalizing the start of another season on the prairie courts.

What’s a week after 20+ years?

Coupeville High School’s cross country program is back, after a two-decade absence, and the first meet is next Wednesday in Granite Falls.

While a handful of Wolf runners have trained and traveled with other schools in recent years, 2018 brings the sport where it belongs, back inside the school.

As they prep for their first race, a photographic look at the harriers who are reigniting the flame.
