Run long! Run strong!!

“Fly! Fly like the wind!!”

And he was gone with the wind.

They came. They saw. They ran all day and night (and then some).

Tons of runners took part in the annual Northwest Passage this weekend, a 200-mile jaunt from the Canadian border at Blaine down to Whidbey Island.

Part of the Ragnar Relay Series, the event drew numerous runners from Coupeville, some of whom are featured in the photos above.

Paced by Coupeville High School sophomores Jacob Smith and Henry Wynn and cheered on by mascot Cheridan Eck, the Wolf Pack overcame the heat and stayed strong until the end.

Pertinent info and such.

One month to go? Are you ready?

Cause if not, you have a lot of training to do in a very short time, skippy.

As we hit July 1st on the calendar, that puts us a slim month out from the annual Race the Reserve, a day packed with running, running and, yes, more running.

The event, which benefits the Coupeville High School Class of 2016, features a half marathon as well as a 10K and 5K, all run in one of the more breath-taking areas where these kind of shindigs are held.

The air was warm, but the running was crisp.

Taking advantage of a gorgeous April day Sunday, tons of people who like going out for a competitive jog crammed into Oak Harbor for the Whidbey Island Marathon.

While no one from Coupeville competed in that event, a bunch of Cow Town natives did take part in the half marathon, 10K and 5K that were also held.

Their results are below, with two caveats:

1) If I missed anyone when combing through the results, I blame my eyes going blurry at the endless stream of names.

2) If you listed Duluth, Minnesota as your hometown, you’re out of luck. Same thing with British Columbia, Tallahassee or, God forbid, Oak Harbor itself.

This is called Coupeville Sports for a reason.

It’s Thanksgiving and you’re likely sitting around, eating.

At that moment when you feel your fullest, take a moment and stroll over this way and partake of today’s conditioning-heavy photo essay, courtesy John Fisken.

Captured in the earliest stages of basketball practice for the Coupeville High School basketball squads, the photos depict a whole heck of a lot of running — exactly the sort of thing no one in their right mind feels like doing today.

But now, at least, you can say “Hey, I looked at people running. It made me tired. Workout accomplished. Now ‘scuse me while this pie and I go take a nap together…”

The opening day of practice Monday for the Coupeville High School girls’ soccer squad, at least in the early going, was all about hitting the open road and putting in some conditioning work.

The expressions on the Wolf player’s faces ranged from resignation to the (occasional) euphoria, at least when they saw a passing cameraman.

No one can resist the lure of a photo op.
