The Coupeville High School boys basketball teams were busy Tuesday night, facing off with arch-rival South Whidbey, and that allowed wanderin’ paparazzi John Fisken a chance to deploy his many cameras.

Pie in the sky (and the face)

The Coupeville High School cheerleaders used the tasty treats for other purposes Saturday night, as they held a pie-in-the-face fundraiser.

The money goes to help the Wolves travel to nationals in Orlando.

After pulling in donations all day, the top three fundraisers — Ja’Tarya Hoskins, Mica Shipley, and Emily Fiedler — were smacked by their very-eager teammates and friends.

Kids cheer camp cancelled

A youth cheer camp originally planned for February 1 has been cancelled.

The plan was for Coupeville High School cheerleaders and coaches to teach students in grades K-8, with money raised going to help fund the Wolves trip to nationals.

For a fundraiser to be run through the school, and operated on school grounds, requires school board approval, however, something which was not in place.

With approval, which could have come at the January 27 school board meeting, any money raised by the camp would have still needed to go through the school’s ASB fund, and not been available for use prior to the trip to nationals.

The CHS cheerleaders are continuing various fundraisers on their own, and plan to replace the cheer camp with a community dinner or similar event.

From cheerleaders moonlighting as paparazzi, to band directors sitting in for their drummers, to friends and former teammates reconnecting, it’s all part of the tapestry of CHS sports.

Register today for youth cheer camp

UPDATE — CAMP HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

You can kick off a new month with a big cheer.

The Coupeville High School cheerleaders are holding a youth cheer camp Saturday, February 1 for children in grades K-8.

The event runs from 12-3 PM in the CHS gym and costs $30, which includes a t-shirt, snack, and water for all participants.

Parents need to register their child online by Jan. 29 to ensure a t-shirt.

At the conclusion of the camp, participants will hold a parent showcase to show off what they’ve learned during the day, which will include a cheer, dance, and stunts.

All children should show up wearing “workout” attire.
