You can lose your mind playing the stats game.

Or, you can accept that while some categories are fairly easy to track, such as touchdowns, others — such as tackles or yardage — are often far trickier.

With that in mind, I present a look at Coupeville High School football stats through week one.

A mixture of stuff I tracked myself, and numbers plucked from MaxPreps, it’s not 100%, but it’s close enough to publish.

Having used my own eyes to witness Wolf senior Brian Casey blow through the Klahowya line and stuff an Eagle runner, I’m a little surprised MaxPreps doesn’t credit him with any tackles.

But, debate always adds a tangy little crunch to any stats story, so here we are.

And with that, on to week two, with the battle for The Bucket going down in Langley Friday night at 7 PM.

CHS varsity head coach Cory Whitmore and senior Abby Mulholland welcome you to a new volleyball season. (Photos by JohnsPhotos.net)

Time to drop some spikes.

The Coupeville High School volleyball teams kick-start new seasons Thursday with a trip to Concrete, followed by three-straight matches at home.

As they fine-tune their sets and sharpen their service games, the Wolves also found a few moments to pose for wanderin’ photographer John Fisken.

Some of what he shot can be seen above and below, but, for the full collection, you’ll have to hang around for the entire season.

They’re running full-tilt into a new season.

Coupeville High School cross country runners get their first taste of action against other schools Sept. 11, when they travel to Bellingham for the Sehome Invite.

As the Wolves prep for competition, photographer John Fisken swung by practice to snap some pics, some of which are seen here.

Another first.

Playing in her fourth college volleyball match Tuesday, Coupeville grad Chelsea Prescott came away with her first win.

Sparked by a five-kill, six-dig performance from the former Wolf, Medaille College ran visiting Wells College off the floor in straight sets.

The 25-14, 25-18, 25-22 win lifts the Mavericks to 1-3 on the season, and they’ll carry that record into the Medaille/Hilbert Invitational, which runs Sept. 10-11.

Prescott and Co. are scheduled to play Buffalo State, SUNY Poly, and Hilbert College during that tourney.

Playing at home in Buffalo, New York, the Medaille spikers produced a well-balanced stat-line Tuesday, with junior Halle Bogas (eight kills) and freshman Haley Kennedy (22 assists) among the leaders.

Prescott has played in all 12 sets the Mavericks have contested this season, racking up 19 kills and 23 digs thus far.
