It’s a complete turnover.

Coupeville Middle School volleyball coach Kristina Hooks has tendered her resignation, effective as of next Thursday’s school board meeting.

She joins fellow CMS coach Cris Matochi as well as high school spiker gurus Cory Whitmore and Ashley Menges in stepping down this off-season.

All four had different reasons for taking a break from gym life.

In the case of Hooks, the recent birth of her son is calling her in a different direction.

“I will always support the girls in the program and will hopefully make it to games in the future but coaching just isn’t in the cards for me this fall,” she said.

“I want to focus on being a mom and with my husband’s deployment schedule I don’t know if he would be back during volleyball season and wouldn’t have anyone to watch the baby.

“I loved my time at CMS and was lucky enough to learn how to be a better coach from Whitmore and Cris as well as work alongside them.”

After graduating in 2018 from Oak Harbor High School (where she played for Whitmore as a freshman), the former Kristina Tirado was hired by CMS in 2023.

Apparently, they’re not afraid of losing their souls.

The Coupeville fans and coaches seen in the pics above and below are content to stare right into the camera and risk the chance the paparazzi behind the lens is up to nefarious purposes.

Bravery, thy name is Wolf Nation.

Laminate ’em, baby.

Coupeville Middle School has released schedules for fall sports, and nothing, I say nothing, will cause any of this to change.

OK, that might be a small lie…

One never truly knows for sure school sports schedules will fully play out as planned until they actually do.

But we’re feeling pretty good about these two, so you can at least write down things in pencil, if maybe not in pen.

Wolf cross country kicks things off with the first day of practice Monday, August 26, while CMS volleyball gets underway Sept. 9.

Amber Wyman returns to coach the harriers, with Cris Matochi and Kristina Hooks back on the sidelines to impart wisdom to the spikers.

We’re cleaning out the archives.

As we transition from fall sports to basketball season, we’re taking a moment to present a medley of pics previously shot, but not run.

The ones seen above and below, which come to us courtesy John Fisken, feature fans at various Coupeville High School events from the past two months.

Fall may be fading, but the photos remain timeless.

Kristina Hooks and other Coupeville sports leaders are being honored on National Coaches Day. (Photos by JohnsPhotos.net)

All across the USA, sports leaders are being honored today.

It’s National Coaches Day, continuing a tradition began in 1972.

President Richard Nixon, he of the infamous helicopter ride into oblivion, can count the creation of the event as one of his wins.

Tricky Dick believed “a coach can help build that moral fiber on which our future as a Nation depends.”

Therefore, it was “appropriate that our Nation join in according them the recognition and honor which they so richly deserve, for they represent the finest elements in the American character.”

The pics above and below capture a small sub-section of the men and women currently living up to those words while directing Coupeville teams.
