The future of Wolf girls basketball is strong.

The Coupeville Middle School 7th and 8th grade teams just capped 8-2 and 6-4 seasons, respectively, and both rosters were chock full of rising stars.

As they exit and head outside for track season, here’s a look at 10 portraits I wasn’t able to use during the regular season.

Everyone gets their portrait taken, but there’s no promise in what order they’ll run.

At the start of every sports season, photo whiz kid John Fisken clicks away merrily, recording each Wolf who shows up on Photo Day, then he’s nice enough to shoot them my way for use during the season.

As the games play out, a lot of the photos are used, though some get bumped as game action shots start to roll in.

I like to make sure all the portraits hit the internet at some point, though.

So, as we wade through a fairly quiet week (high school finals are keeping CHS players out of competition from Sunday to Thursday), here’s eight, which, for whatever reason, haven’t seen the light of day yet.

Before every new high school sports season begins, photo day is a time-honored ritual.

John Fisken hoists his camera and madly clicks away, getting a pic of every girl and boy who will be in uniform for the Wolves — or at least every one who remembers to show up for photo day.

Then he’s nice enough to send them my way.

As the season progresses, I sprinkle those portraits across the top of numerous stories.

But, without fail, especially during a busy season like fall, with volleyball, tennis, soccer, cheer and football, there will be some which haven’t seen the light of day.

So, today, I offer up a mixture of portraits, which, for whatever reason, haven’t had their moment in the spotlight until now.

Sort of spring cleaning, just in late fall.

Say hello to the random number generator.

With the start of actual basketball games roaring down on us, here’s a look at some of the Wolves who will be running the hard-court this season.

Not all of them, mind you.

I’m not running upwards of 50 portraits in a single story that stretches across the internet from coast to coast.

So, I took the head shots, which come to us courtesy John Fisken, and dropped them into a random number generator and out popped the four girls and boys who get to hit the internet today.

As the season plays out, I’m sure I’ll use all the CHS hoops stars portraits I have, but, for today, we’re going to eight.

Three days away.

The high school basketball season officially kicks off Saturday, when the Coupeville High School girls’ squad heads to Sedro-Woolley for a jamboree.

Real games tip-off Tuesday, Nov. 29, with the Wolf boys hosting Blaine, and the girls making the trip to the border to face the same school.

As you count down the hours, take a gander at a fresh batch of pix courtesy wanderin’ paparazzi John Fisken.

While we can’t claim every single Wolf player is shown (a few were AWOL at the moment the camera was clicking), you can see at least 98.4% of them.
