Hark, the hardwood calls.

The first day of high school basketball practice in Washington state is Monday, Nov. 18, with games kicking off for the Coupeville High School girls a hair over two weeks later.

The Wolves are set for a 19-game slate right now, with 10 of those contests against their Northwest 2B/1B League rivals.

CHS squares off with 1B schools Darrington and Concrete once, while lacing up the sneakers twice against its 2B foes — Orcas Island, La Conner, Friday Harbor, and Mount Vernon Christian.

The schedule includes a two-game late-December trip to Central Washington University for Megan Richter’s varsity squad, plus a smattering of new-to-us opponents such as Morton-White Pass and Wahkiakum.

The sound of shoes squeaking on the hardwood approaches.

High school basketball practice kicks off across the state Monday, Nov. 18, with the first games for Coupeville arriving a day or two into December.

As it stands now, the Wolf boys have a full 20-game regular season, with half of those games against Northwest 2B/1B League rivals.

CHS squares off with each of the other four 2B schools — La Conner, Mount Vernon Christian, Orcas Island, and Friday Harbor — twice, while only playing once against 1B foes Darrington and Concrete.

The Wolves also travel to Eastern Washington the last weekend in December for two games on the courts at Central Washington University and pick up several new non-conference opponents.

Teams like Morton-White Pass, Wahkiakum, and Napavine all offer Brad Sherman’s squad a chance to face state tourney-level competition, while getting Coupeville a higher profile among basketball observers.

“Let me at ’em!!” CHS football coach Bennett Richter is ready to play now, but he’ll have to wait until September. (Jackie Saia photo)

It’s a brave new world.

Coupeville High School has released its football schedule for next fall, and it features matchups with several teams who the Wolves haven’t traditionally faced.

Annie Wright, Adna, and Winlock pop up, while La Conner is gone, as the Braves try and rebuild their program by dropping down to play eight-man football.

That means there are only two Northwest 2B/1B League clashes on the schedule, as Coupeville and Friday Harbor vie for the conference’s lone 2B playoff bid.

Overall, the Wolves get five home games, with The Bucket game against South Whidbey coming mid-season.

Where things sit as of now:

Fri-Sept. 6 — Annie Wright
Fri-Sept. 13 — @ Klahowya
Fri-Sept. 20 — Granite Falls
Sat-Sept. 28 — @ Cedar Park Christian
Fri-Oct. 4 — South Whidbey
Fri-Oct 11 — Friday Harbor
Fri-Oct. 18 — @ Adna
Fri-Oct. 25 — Winlock
Fri-Nov. 1 — @ Friday Harbor
