Maddie Vondrak (left) and Lucy Tenore (10) rise up to finish off a point.

Every kill, every dig, every hustle play.

They all count when it comes times to adding up stats, as shown in the numbers below.

Giving us a snapshot of the Coupeville High School varsity volleyball squad through April 20, the numbers reflect four matches having been played in this pandemic-altered season.

Coupeville’s most-recent match, a five-set thriller against Mount Vernon Christian, enabled the Wolves to rack up some big numbers.

Sophomore Maddie Georges set career highs against the Hurricanes, with 46 assists and 11 digs, while seniors Kylie Chernikoff and Chelsea Prescott also put up best-ever numbers.

Chernikoff went off for 24 spikes and 10 digs while rumbling with MVC, with Prescott racking up 23 kills and 14 digs.

“It was a fun match to be a part of and watch this team work through,” said Wolf coach Cory Whitmore. “They had to find it within themselves to dig deep and adjust, as well as find the emotional and physical energy within as well.

“Proud of this team and their resiliency and very much looking forward to continuing to grow.”

Bella Whalen leads Coupeville in triples, and is in the top four in all 10 offensive categories. (Tiffani Blazek photo)

Rack up some numbers.

As the Coupeville High School softball team has rolled to a 7-0 start on the season, it has gotten production across the board.

Wolf coach Kevin McGranahan has found varsity at-bats for 16 players, with his leading ladies collecting some sweet stats.

Seniors Mollie Bailey and Chelsea Prescott are pacing the CHS hitters, with the former topping the team in hits, doubles, RBI, and batting average.

Prescott isn’t too far off, currently holding the top slot in runs and stolen bases, while tying with Bailey for #1 in doubles.

While both of those stars are playing their final games in a Wolf uniform, junior Izzy Wells and sophomore Bella Whalen are among the young guns ready to lead the program.

Wells has been the best pitcher in the Northwest 2B/1B League by a mile, while Whalen is in Coupeville’s top four players in 10 different offensive categories.

Where the Wolves stand heading into a home doubleheader Saturday against Darrington:

Ben Smith was one of five Coupeville High School football players to both score a touchdown and pick off a pass this season. (Photos by JohnsPhotos.net)

Sean Toomey-Stout led CHS with seven touchdowns.

So, this isn’t 100% complete.

Let’s just get that out of the way from the start.

But, that being said, it’s better than nothing.

The Coupeville High School football team rolled to a very-respectable 5-4 record this season — posting the first winning mark by a Wolf gridiron squad since 2005, if you didn’t hear that fact the first 100,000 times I mentioned it.

Here’s where I’d like to present a flawless accounting of stats for the whole year, but, for a lot of different reasons, I don’t have those numbers.

What I do have are the stats I was able to keep track of personally – some of the big ones like who scored, how they scored, and how often they scored.

Like I said, it’s better than nothing.

So here you go:

Passing TD’s:

Dawson Houston – 9

Receiving TD’s:

Sean Toomey-Stout – 5
Gavin Knoblich – 4

Rushing TD’s:

Andrew Martin – 5

Scott Hilborn – 1

Coupeville sophomore Mikaela Labrador improved her javelin throw by 14+ feet as the 2019 season progressed. (Photo by JohnsPhotos.net)

They are often the unsung heroes of track and field.

The runners zipping around the track oval do so right in front of the stands, but the team’s throwers are usually stuck off in various corners, often far away from the main hub of action.

But today we’re here to shine a spotlight on Coupeville’s throwing crew, thanks to stats from coach Bob Martin.

This season, 20 of the 32 Wolves in the CHS program tried at least one of the three throwing events (shot put, discus, javelin), with seven competing in all three exercises.

Megan Behan, Aurora Cernick, Emma Smith, Chris Battaglia, Brian Casey, Elijah Okaruru, and Raven Vick were the ultimate throwing warriors, picking up (and flinging) each of the implements.

Overall, the javelin was the most popular, with 16 Wolves trying it, while shot put apparently was the scariest, with just 10 hefting the orb.

Discus fell somewhere in the middle, with 13 giving it a go.

The chart below tracks all 20 of the Wolves who threw, detailing their first attempt during a live meet, and the best distance they landed in competition.

And before you start using all your fingers and toes to add, the two Coupeville throwers who had the biggest in-season improvement were Logan Martin and Smith.

Logan, a freshman, is the younger brother of Dalton Martin, who holds the CHS record in the discus at 161 feet, seven inches, set in his senior season in 2016.

But, way back when Dalton was a freshman, his PR was 107-02.

Logan already has him there, improving from 80-04 in his first high school meet, to 121-11 by the district meet.

That’s an in-season jump of 41 feet, seven inches, and now he has three more full seasons left to pick up the additional 39 feet, nine inches he needs to topple big bro from the school record board.

Smith didn’t jump quite as far as her younger teammate, but she did still have a heck of a senior season.

She made it to state in both the shot put and discus, and improved 20 feet, five inches during the season in the second event.

Smith whipped it 72-03 in the season-opening Island Jamboree in mid-March, then came around to hit 92-08 at districts two months later.

And now, on to a look at how all 20 of the Wolf throwers improved during the course of the 2019 season:

Time for the stretch run.

The Coupeville High School softball team returns to action Tuesday, ending a nine-day break between games.

Sitting atop the North Sound Conference at 2-1 (they’re 4-5 overall after facing a brutal, road-game-heavy early schedule), the Wolves are in control of their own fate.

Coupeville closes with seven of 10 on Whidbey, with nine of those being league clashes.

The second-half run begins, and ends, with games against Island rival South Whidbey, though the biggest showdowns will be with co-league leader Granite Falls Apr. 17 and May 1.

As we prepare to swing back into action, a look at season-to-date stats, as plucked from MaxPreps:
