Don’t even try and sneak in the back way Friday for the Olympic League track and field championships. Wolf coach Randy King can, and will, kick you into another dimension. (Photo by JohnsPhotos.net)

Want to see Wolf track stars like Lindsey Roberts or Jacob Smith compete for a league title?

Get ready to fork over some greenbacks.

The 1A Olympic League finals, which are set to go down 2 PM Friday at Coupeville High School’s track complex, will be on a pay-to-watch basis for fans.

CHS Athletic Director Willie Smith confirmed Thursday that the event is being operated under the same guidelines as all other postseason events.

Ticket prices:

Adults and students w/o ASB – $8
Students (with ASB) – $5
Elementary (under 12) – $4
Senior Citizens (62+) – $5

Also, there will be only one entry point open Friday, and that is through the gate off the elementary school.

The back entrance by the baseball field will not be used for the event, so if you choose to park in the baseball/softball parking lot, expect to walk all the way around.

The league finals brings Chimacum, Port Townsend and Klahowya to town to face off with the Wolves.

Top three finishers in each event Friday punch their ticket to the district meet May 18-19 in Renton.

Districts fills out its eight-athlete draws by taking the top four finishers from the Nisqually League, then awarding the final spot to the better time/distance between the OL #4 and NL #5.

The momentary quiet of the shot put…

followed by the fury, as Ryan Labrador lets rip under the watchful gaze of Keahi Sorrows.

Thane Peterson floats back to Earth.

Sorrows, Labrador and CHS coach Bob Martin, AKA “The Wrecking Crew,” out for a Reservoir Dogs-style stroll.

Logan Martin is a master of many arts.

The Coupeville Middle School 8th grader is a standout three-sport athlete (football, basketball and track), but also one who just revealed a skillful touch with the camera.

Making his bid to move into the hotly-contested world of the paparazzi, Martin captured the images above when he was at the recent Lil’ Norway Track and Field Invitational with dad Bob, an assistant coach for CHS.

Wolf track stars (clockwise, from upper left) Sean Toomey-Stout, Jean Lund-Olsen, Ariah Bepler and Cameron Toomey-Stout are among the best in 1A. (Photo by JohnsPhotos.net)

Nothing stays the same.

With the regular season winding down this week, the battle to be in the top 10 for state track and field marks has ramped up in intensity.

As they prep for the sub-district meet May 4 in Coupeville, seven Wolves are currently among the best in all of 1A in at least one category.

That’s down from nine a week ago, as the CHS girls relay teams were recently knocked out of the top 10 in both the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200.

While that chops three names off the list (at least for a moment), another Wolf has popped onto the charts for the first time this season.

Senior Ariah Bepler hit a PR in the high jump last week and that propelled him all the way up to a tie for fourth among 1A male jumpers.

His fellow senior, Jacob Smith, remains the top Wolf, with his name showing up in three different categories at the moment.

Now, as soon as you finish reading this, a tardy coach or administrator may pop onto Athletic.net and drop a time or height or distance which throws all this asunder.

But, at this exact moment, 10:25 PM, Saturday, Apr. 28, here’s how Coupeville stacks up against the best of 1A:

Girls:

100 Hurdles — Lindsey Roberts (7th) 15.82 *Down one slot*

Boys:

100 — Jacob Smith (5th) 11.32 *Same position on charts*

200 — Smith (4th) 22.96 *Up three slots*

400 — Danny Conlisk (8th) 51.97 *Down two slots*

4 x 100 — Jean Lund-Olsen, Smith, Cameron Toomey-Stout, Sean Toomey-Stout, Smith (6th) 45.01 *Up four slots*

High Jump — Ariah Bepler (4th) 6-00 *Debut on the charts**

Raven Vick unleashes the full force of her fury. (Brian Vick photos)

Ariah Bepler finds his moment of Zen.

That moment when you realize just how many freakin’ laps there are in one of these distance races.

“Sweep the leg, Johnny, sweep the leg!!”

Zoe Trujillo becomes one with her javelin.

Lindsey Roberts (front) and Ja’Tarya Hoskins, about to drop a beatin’ on their unsuspecting rivals in the hurdles.

Sean Toomey-Stout’s track game is strong, his hair game even stronger.

Willow Vick enters the arena, game face firmly attached.

When the coach says maybe the team will go to Arby’s instead of McDonald’s after the meet.

There are a ton of Wolf moms who snap pics at Coupeville sports events, near and far.

But we can’t let Brian Vick and his “dad camera” get lost in the mix.

With daughters Willow and Raven and their CHS track and field teammates competing in Port Angeles Thursday, the proud papa was on scene and clickin’ away.

The snappy pics seen above are thanks to him.
