More photos? Of course.

When I posted a CHS volleyball photo essay this morning, I didn’t have access to JV pics from Tuesday night.

That’s changed now, so I’m back to unleash more pink-hued glossy images on the spiker world.

Six snappy pics in all, with a cameo from Wolf cheerleaders just to mix things up a bit.

(John Fisken photo)

Kylie Chernikoff (28), Savannah Smith (10), Catherine Lhamon (5) and Genna Wright (grey hoodie) all had big performances Wednesday. (John Fisken photo)

First they rallied, then they struck with a vengeance.

Bouncing back from a lackluster middle set Wednesday, the Coupeville Middle School 8th grade varsity volleyball squad scorched visiting Forks with precision serving down the backstretch and rolled to an impressive win.

The 25-23, 13-25, 15-5 victory came in the Wolves final home match and offered a preview of what these spikers may offer the high school program in the coming years.

It might have been easy to break after surrendering eight unanswered points at the end to drop the second set.

Apparently, these Wolves are made of strong stuff, however, as they never blinked.

Instead, they rode the hot serving hands of Savannah Smith, Kylie Chernikoff and Catherine Lhamon in the third set and crushed the Spartans in decisive fashion.

Smith, the fast-rising lil’ sister of CHS sophomore sensation Emma Smith, got things kicked off with four straight points off her serve as Coupeville built an insurmountable 5-0 lead.

Three of her points were straight-up winners, as Forks couldn’t get a handle on Smith’s serves all match, while one point came off a daring play by teammate Genna Wright.

Dancing dangerously close to the net, Wright dropped a gorgeous tip between two Spartans.

As the ball found pay dirt and skidded away, the irrepressible Wolf stole a look over her shoulder, and the look on her face told the tale — she expected the ref to wave off the winner.

When he didn’t, a huge smile burst across her face and she subtly pumped a fist.

Once CMS had the final-set lead, the Wolves jammed the gas pedal down and put Forks out of its misery fast.

Chernikoff, who was en fuego all match, ripped an ace that caused two Spartans to collide as they went for (and missed) the ball, then Lhamon got creative.

Dropping little daggers over the net with a variety of soft, and very effective serves, she pushed the lead all the way out to 13-3 and you could hear the Forks bus driver firing up their vehicle in the parking lot.

The final set rally capped an afternoon in which Coupeville was consistently on-point on serve.

Smith, Chernikoff and Chelsea Prescott all had runs at the stripe in the opening set, with Chernikoff also blasting a pair of winners off of Spartan players who found themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Prescott, made famous earlier in the season when one of her spikes blew up an opponents face and decorated the gym with blood, didn’t physically hurt anyone this time.

But she did wreck the Spartans psyches, with her lasers causing them to progressively edge further and further away from her cannon shots.

The prettiest play of the match came on the final point the Wolves got in the second set, as Prescott set up Wright, who then popped a perfect set right back at her, allowing Prescott to finish things off with a resounding put-away.

Coral Caveness, Maddie Vondrak and Jaimee Masters also saw floor time and each provided a spark to the CMS attack.

JV sweeps:

The second unit was even more brutally efficient, as the 8th grade JV rolled Forks 25-14, 25-17.

Jaelyn Crebbin, playing in the high school gym her mom Toni once ruled as CHS volleyball coach, was everywhere, picking up a tip for a winner, then firing an ace that ricocheted off of two opponents before punching a service return that split the defense for another point.

Caveness and Vondrak picked up service aces of their own while Lacy McCraw twisted her body into a pretzel in midair while dropping in a winner.

Eryn Wood was straight-up money at the stripe, picking up eight points on her serve in the first set alone, while Emily Fiedler and Amanda Thomas chipped in with hustle and strong effort during their shifts on the floor.

Coupeville was in the pink Tuesday night.

The rampaging Wolf volleyball squad rolled to a straight-sets win over its biggest rival, while also raising money and awareness for the fight against breast cancer.

When he wasn’t snapping pics, John Fisken also participated in the Dig for the Cure festivities, letting CHS spikers turn his silver locks pink in honor of his sister Mary, who passed away recently after a 10-year battle with the disease.

Maddy Hilkey (John Fisken photo)

Maddy Hilkey is the leader of a Wolf JV volleyball squad which has won six straight. (John Fisken photo)

They are the hottest team in all the land.

Sparked by the wicked serves of Raven Vick and Lucy Sandahl, the Coupeville High School JV spikers strolled to a straight-sets win Tuesday night, nabbing their sixth straight victory.

The 26-24, 25-17, 25-19 triumph, coming over visiting Klahowya, lifts the Wolf young guns to 5-0 in 1A Olympic League play, 8-2 overall.

Playing second on Dig for the Cure night, the JV squad started slowly, falling behind 6-2 and showing an uncharacteristic lack of touch at the service stripe by sending its first two offerings into the bottom of the net.

That didn’t last long, however, as the Wolves regrouped, rallied behind a nice run at the service stripe from Hannah Davidson, then settled in for a battle.

The two teams traded the first-set lead back and forth, with 11 ties, before Klahowya started to crawl away.

Up 21-17, the Eagles seemed in control.

Spoiler alert: they weren’t.

Getting the ball back after forcing a side-out, Coupeville tossed the ball to Vick, and the freshman phenom responded in style.

With her twin sister Willow leading the cheers, Raven broke off six straight points with a serve that kicked like a mule and took off Klahowya fingertips as it skidded by.

The Eagles briefly rallied back into a tie, only to have their hearts broken when Sandahl made a lunging save and spun the ball in between three panicky Klahowya players for the decisive point.

Sandahl stayed hot, putting together two nice service runs of her own in the second set, while Maddy Hilkey made a spectacular running save for a winner and Davidson sliced ‘n diced with a series of big hits.

The third set was more of the same, with everyone jumping into the mix.

Peytin Vondrak, Scout Smith and (yep, her again) Sandahl were lights-out on serve.

Meanwhile, Willow Vick and Zoe Trujillo were delivering sweet winners, before Hilkey closed the match with a note-perfect drop shot worthy of a few oohs and ahs.

Payton Aparicio (John Fisken photo)

Payton Aparicio had nine service aces and six kills Tuesday, sparking Coupeville to a straight-sets win over Klahowya. (John Fisken photo)

There’s a new boss in volleyball land.

The first two years of the 1A Olympic League Klahowya went a combined 12-0 in league play and won back-to-back titles.

That time is done.

Playing inspired, extremely balanced ball on its home court Tuesday night, the Coupeville High School spikers roared to a convincing straight-sets win over the Eagles, moving within a win of clinching the 2016 crown.

The 25-13, 27-25, 25-18 victory lifts the Wolves to 5-0 in league play, 8-3 overall.

CHS is three games up on Chimacum and Klahowya, who are both 3-3 in conference action.

Since the Wolves already own the tiebreaker over both those schools, a win Thursday at Port Townsend (0-5) will clinch Coupeville’s first volleyball league title since 2001.

Win the crown and CHS gets a boost come playoff time, as the #1 seed from the Olympic League starts the postseason in the double-elimination round of districts.

Win twice (while playing on its home court, as Coupeville hosts districts Nov. 5) and the Wolves are state-bound.

And, while they continue to take it one match at a time, the Wolves, who have four regular-season bouts left, now have the most wins by a CHS varsity squad since the 2009 team went 9-6.

If the Wolves continue to play like they did Tuesday, they might make some serious inroads on the school single-season mark of 13 victories, set in 2004.

Coupeville, after a brief hiccup to start the match, lit Klahowya up with a mix of dazzling serves and bone-crunching hits.

Hope Lodell kicked things off, unleashing three straight scorching serves to spark the Wolves to their first lead of the night at 4-3, then Payton Aparicio got nasty and really blew the hinges off the door.

After dropping in a tip for a winner at 8-6, the Wolf junior strolled to the service line and ripped off nine straight winners.

The first eight balls never came back over the net, as the Eagles struggled mightily to solve Aparicio, before Emma Smith dropped a huge spike to push the lead to 17-6.

While Smith’s winner was a crowd-pleaser, it was probably only her third-hardest-hit ball of the evening, as the sophomore slugger opened a can of whup-ass on Klahowya that had no end in sight.

Maybe feeling a bit left out, Wolf teammate Mikayla Elfrank came swinging into the spotlight, capping the opening set with a pair of emphatic winners.

One was on a ferocious spike that tore off a rival girl’s arm, the other on a tip in which Elfrank tiptoed up a staircase to heaven before delicately redirecting the ball into the only open space on the floor.

To give Klahowya credit, the Eagles refused to bend easily, running out to a 17-10 lead in the second set.

While Katrina McGranahan lashed a noisy winner off of linesman Steve Kiel’s ankle and Aparicio put together another strong run on serve, things seemed to be headed towards split sets.

Except Coupeville wasn’t having any of that.

Rallying behind the steady serving of unflappable Lauren Rose, the Wolves came all the way back to take the lead, then surrendered it just as suddenly, then pulled the set win out with a bang.

Suffice it to say, it was a wild ride, especially for hyperventilating parents in the stands.

Elfrank went airborne like a ballerina with serious hops to drop in a tip, McGranahan peeled three layers of paint off the floor with a spike which exploded loud enough to wake up the dead and suddenly CHS was up 24-22 and on a 12-5 run.

Cue the sucker-punch, as a couple of mishits put Klahowya back up 25-24.

Enter Aparicio, silent as a ninja, slapping teammate Valen Trujillo’s hand for good luck, then delivering a knockout one-two punch.

First she dropped a note-perfect tip, perfectly angling it so it bounced off the posterior of a fallen foe, then she elevated and ripped a slicing spike down the line for another winner.

With CHS back in front by a point, Ashley Menges put the set away, ripping a service winner off of a Klahowya returner’s arm and letting the crowd breathe again.

There was still a set to play, but the Eagles were done, shoulders sagging, the fight ebbing from their bodies.

They tried to pull it together for a few nice rallies, but Coupeville could see the finish line and was surging.

Winners came from every direction, both expected — Smith and Elfrank mashing winners at 110 MPH — and unexpected — Lodell throwing out a balled-up fist at the last second and not only saving the ball, but redirecting it for a winner.

Appropriately on a night when she could seem to do little wrong, the final point of the match came from Aparicio, who let loose with one final service winner and then jumped into her teammate’s arms.

The resounding victory, coming on a night when the CHS spikers honored those fighting breast cancer, brought a smile to their coach’s face.

“I was very happy with our composure all night,” said Cory Whitmore. “Even when we were trailing, we chipped away and focused on fixing any issues on our side of the net instead of worrying about what the other team was doing.”

The stat sheet was exactly the way the volleyball guru likes to see it — balanced in the extreme.

Aparicio led the way with nine service aces and six kills, while Lodell (nine digs, five aces, four kills), Menges (11 assists, four aces) and Rose (nine assists, four aces) all chipped in.

Trujillo went low for nine digs, while McGranahan (7), Smith (4) and Elfrank (4) all soared for key kills.
