Finn splashes to new glory

He’s not biding his time.

Two meets into a new swim season, Coupeville High School sophomore Finn Price has already qualified for districts in four events.

The lone Wolf in the water jumps across to the mainland to train and travel with Kamiak, and he’s scorching the competition.

As a freshman, he went to districts in the 100 free and 200 free, finishing 7th in the latter race.

This year Price has already hit qualifying times in both those events, as well as the 50 free and 100 breaststroke.

Since Coupeville, a 2B school, doesn’t have a swim program of its own, he joins up with Kamiak, a 4A school, for the regular season through a co-op agreement.

Price stays with the mainlanders through late January, then breaks free to travel his own path for the postseason.

Flashback Friday: Squashers be squashin’

They weren’t just going to beat you, they were here to squash you.

A Flashback Friday photo takes us into Coupeville’s basketball past with a look at the Squashers, a team longtime hoop stat queen June Mazdra places in the early ’60s.

“Looks to be about ’63 or ’64,” she said.

“I know a few. Back row middle is Eric Hopkins, back row far right, Marvin (maybe Daryl) Darst.

“Middle bottom, Rocky Libbey, next to him on right, my brother Jerry Wilson.

“Graduates of ’69 and ’70 I think.”

Hardwood heroes, one and all.

Free throws fuel future Wolf success

They shoot, you pay, everyone scores.

The Coupeville High School girls’ basketball team is conducting a fundraiser this season based on how many free throws the squad hits in varsity games.

You pledge a certain amount for each successful charity shot, then pay up at the end of the season, once all the numbers are totaled up.

All money raised goes to the Wolf program to help with equipment and supplies.

Fans can reach out to Coupeville coaches or players to get a donation sheet.

Or, if you want to get a jump start on helping out, you can also skip ahead and make a flat donation now by contacting CHS head coach Megan Richter at msmith@coupeville.k12.wa.us.

Every age group adores God’s Chosen Sport

Basketball fans of all ages are hooked on Coupeville High School basketball.

From lil’ ones making their first visit to the gym, to elder statesmen with decades of time around the hardwood, the Wolf fan base is a sturdy one.

Spikers cap awards season

That’s a wrap.

Coupeville High School volleyball held its awards banquet Wednesday night, bringing an official end to the fall sports season.

The Wolves, who advanced to state for the first time since 2017, handed out awards and letters, looking ahead to next season while celebrating the accomplishments of this campaign.

Senior Grey Peabody earned MVP honors for the CHS varsity, while junior Chloe Marzocca was honored as the top JV player.

Coupeville made a run at the state tourney, and only graduates two from this lineup.
