Wolf spikers fans for a day

It was the calm before the storm.

With their own trip to the district tourney a day away, several Coupeville High School volleyball players made an appearance at Oak Harbor’s match Tuesday night.

While the Wildcats fell in straight sets to visiting Ferndale, the atmosphere and excitement should help prep the Wolves for their own adventure.

On to La Conner!

On to play Auburn Adventist Academy at 5 PM Wednesday, where a win sends CHS into a 7:30 tilt against the host Braves, with a trip to state at stake.

Trio surge to big lead in school board race

A clean sweep, so far.

For the first time in its nearly 10-year history, Coupeville Sports issued political candidate endorsements, and all three of my selections are rolling to victory.

If things hold, Nancy Conard, Morgan White, and incumbent Sherry Phay will join Glenda Merwine and Christine Sears on the Coupeville School Board.

Phay was running unopposed for a second term, and has received 1,874 votes through the first release of vote totals Tuesday night by the Island County Auditor’s office.

The other two races feature Coupeville grads with distinguished resumes being embraced by local voters.

White, a mother of two and business owner who has been highly-active in Coupeville schools, leads Ward Sparacio 1,895-834.

Meanwhile, Conard, former long-time town mayor and Coupeville Schools business manager, is paddling internet troll Paul Rempa 2,100-681.

Conard has garnered 75.51% of votes tallied, while White has claimed 69.44%.

With the first release of numbers, 17,617 ballots have been counted, with an estimated 1,800 left to count.

The next update will be released Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 5 PM.

The postseason arrives, in a hail of photos.

The Coupeville High School volleyball squad is off to La Conner Wednesday for the District 1/2 tourney.

Gridiron gang nabs another game

Not done just yet.

The Coupeville High School football team has picked up a week 10 crossover game against another school which missed the playoffs.

The Wolves, who sit at 2-5, head to Highline Memorial Stadium Thursday, Nov. 4 to play Seattle’s Evergreen High School.

Kickoff is 6 PM.

The stadium is located at 400 S. 156th Street in Burien.

The game will pit Coupeville, a 2B school, against a 2A foe from the vaunted 2A/3A/4A Kingco — albeit one which finished dead-last in the 2A division.

Evergreen, 1-7, earned its lone win when Foster forfeited the regular-season finale.

Prior to that, the Wolverines lost:

50-42 to Sultan
55-6 to Meridian
49-14 to Lindbergh
48-14 to Highline
46-12 to Interlake
40-18 to Renton
25-19 to Sammamish

Evergreen will have a substantial player advantage, as it lists 50 players on its roster, while Coupeville is in the 20-22 range.

Best names on the roster?

Shady Earl, a sophomore defensive back/running back, and Viking Bergfast, a junior linebacker/running back.
