band

Not being a band alumni, it took me a moment to get the point of the three guys hoodies. When I did (I’m sure you’ll get it quicker), I nodded and smiled.

“Dear lord, please let this one go in. If you do, I’ll switch over to being a Steelers fan, the way you intended us to be.”

girls

“Smart girl!!”

your mom

Kailey Kellner (left) and Ally Roberts have your mom on speed dial.

It’s all about the fans.

Well, sure, it’s also all about the basketball players (and we’ll have a smorgasbord of CHS boys’ hoops pics Sunday), but, at the moment, the spotlight — and the camera lens — is on the folks in the stands.

And, since a good chunk of them Friday night were super comfortable in front of the camera, all the better for travelin’ photo man John Fisken.

The photos above are courtesy him, the hardest-working Diet Coke fiend in all the land.

Tyler King (John Fisken photos)

Breeanna Messner

Four-sport star Breeanna Messner dropped in to see parents Aimee and Robert Bishop (and give out hugs to the media).

Joel, Curtin

High school stars turned college athletes (l to r) Joel Walstad, Aaron Curtin and Ben Etzell catch up while being harassed by the paparazzi.

locks

The Nebraska air has been good to Walstad’s silky locks.

fords and messners

Messner has a (partial) family reunion after watching cousin Jordan Ford (not shown) score 13 in a win over Concrete.

Julia

“Elbows” returns. One-time hoops enforcer/photo queen Julia Myers checks out the new bleachers (and drives my page view count up 276%).

Aunt Judy hangs out with her lil' niece, Lydia, and gets bum-rushed by everyone in the crowd.

Tis the season for heroes to return.

As the holidays hit, former Coupeville High School hoops stars are prone to return to town to see family and check up on the “young punks” who now wear the uniforms they once did.

Travelin’ photo man John Fisken kept one eye cocked at Friday night’s Wolf boys’ hoops games and snagged the photos above to give us a brief visual reminder of the walkin’, talkin’, muggin’ for the camera glory days.

Kailey Kellner

Kailey Kellner’s fan club is all in for their favorite long-range sniper.

Emma and Ashley

Super fans Emma Smith (#3 sign) and Ashley Menges are on hand to root for fellow frosh Ashlie Shank and Maddy Hilkey.

McKenzie Bailey

Senior class big wigs McKenzie Bailey (left) and Jazmine Franklin can run the school and still find time for a photo op. It’s called multitasking.

varsity

The CHS varsity, eternally loose before their game.

fans

CHS football phenom Lathom Kelley (standing, backwards hat) makes sure his folks are ready to get loud.

KK and the girls

“We’re coming for all the wins. All of them!!” Wolves (l to r) Tiffany Briscoe, Mia Littlejohn, Kailey Kellner and Roberts prepare to drop another butt-whuppin’.

The bar has been set, the mic has been dropped.

Given first crack at a substantial photo shoot this season, the Coupeville High School girls’ basketball team (and its fans) responded strongly.

Now, as the Wolf boys near their own date with destiny (in the form of a camera-wielding John Fisken) this Friday, when they host Concrete in a non-conference tussle, the only question is — can they respond? Will they respond?

Well, that’s two questions, but you get the point.

My advice to the CHS boys hoops stars? Loosen up, play to the camera, crack a freakin’ smile every once in awhile.

You’re off to a great start, atop the 1A Olympic League. Enjoy the moment and realize there’s more to life than adopting a cold stare every time the camera comes your way.

You’re not food-deprived wrestlers, after all. You can kick ass and still have fun.

No one remembers the photos where ten dudes stare at the camera with a monotone snarl on their face. Dare to switch it up once in awhile.

Otherwise you’ve already ceded the battle to your female counterparts, who understand how to play the on-court game and off-court game equally well.

cheer

band

The CHS band, ready to get rowdy.

“They’ve got a good beat and I can dance to ’em!”

Mollie

Mollie (front) and Mckenzie Bailey stake their claim to being Wolf three-ball assassin Kailey Kellner’s biggest boosters.

fans

Brenden Gilbert (hat) takes his responsibility to anchor the CHS student section seriously, showing up long before tip-off, accompanied by his support crew.

Nicole and Sarah

Nicole Lester (top) works on Sarah Wright’s ‘do, while Brisa Herrera (left) monitors things.

trio

Later that night, the trio of (l to r) Sarah Wright, Ashlie Shank and Ema Smith would play, and win. At that moment, however, they were otherwise occupied.

Makana candy

The semi-annual meeting of the Sour Patch Kids Fan Club unites (l to r) Lindsey Roberts, Makana Stone and Wolf mom/candy smuggler Amy Briscoe.

The camera is a restless beast.

When action isn’t happening on the hard-court, rovin’ photo man John Fisken likes to go hunting for pics wherever he can find them.

Then, he delivers them unto us, a merry medley of band, cheer, fans, wandering babies and Sour Patch Kids bribes, and we are better for it.

Even if we didn’t get any candy ourselves…

Allison Wenzel

Ignoring a taped-up hand, Allison Wenzel nimbly leads the charge up-court.

Mia and Lauren

Mia Littlejohn (21) catches some rare air as she flies in to greet Lauren Grove during pre-game introductions.

bench

Tension? What tension? The JV game might have been super close, but Brittany Powers (with water bottle), Sarah Wright (braids) and photo-bomber Lindsey Roberts are all smiles.

I mustache you ... how do you stop Makana Stone? Trick question, cause you don't.

Skyler Lawrence

Skyler Lawrence will not be trifled with.

Kailey Kellner

Highly accomplished long-range gunner Kailey Kellner mixes things up and rumbles in the paint.

Lauren Rose

“There can only be ONE!!!!!!” My money is on Lauren “Mouse” Rose winning this battle.

They are the school’s premier program.

Coupeville High School girls’ basketball is the only sport to have an absolutely perfect record in 1A Olympic League competition.

Since the league was created last year, the Wolf girls’ hoops squad have each gone 10-0 when facing off with Port Townsend, Klahowya and Chimacum.

Guided by David and Amy King, CHS continued their dominance Friday, with the varsity (47-38) and JV (26-24) both coming out on top in battles with the visiting Eagles.

As the Wolves rolled, travelin’ photo man John Fisken clicked away and some of his best pics can be found above.
