Can’t have a race without the support crew.

Saturday’s Race the Reserve was no different, as event organizers, volunteers, family, friends, fans, musicians and even the occasional eagle joined in to make things run smoothly.

Capturing all the behind the scenes action was travelin’ photo man John Fisken and the pics above are courtesy him.

At some point, I’m going to have to go buy the man a Diet Coke or 300…

mollie

Mollie Bailey, the future of Wolf sports, would like to know someone out there will be ordering all the varsity letters she’s going to earn in the coming years.

Who’s gonna step up?

We’ve just rolled out of one school year, and are several months away from a new one, but that doesn’t mean things are totally quiet behind the scenes.

As Wolf athletes graduate, some parents fall off and others with younger kids rise to take their place, and now is a good time to think about helping make Coupeville High School athletics a success.

The school’s Booster Club, which keeps things humming year-round, has begun looking for people to fill a list of small, but important jobs.

In recent weeks they have used their Facebook page to put out the call for people interested in:

**Running the 50/50 raffles at home CHS football and basketball games

**Taking photos at games

**Ordering varsity letters and bars for teams at the end of seasons

**Ordering roses for Senior Night festivities

**Working as a membership coordinator for the club

**Helping with the scholarship committee, which hands out awards to Wolf senior student/athletes

Whether you have a son or daughter at CHS, or are just in the mood to help out cause you’re nice like that, now is the ideal time to get in touch with the booster club.

Yes, right now.

The future of Wolf softball played like champs.

As travelin’ photo man John Fisken clicked away, the Diamond Dusters, a Central Whidbey Little League majors softball squad sponsored by Bailey Dirt Works, pounded the North Whidbey Gold 12-9.

The squad, coached by Ian Somes (with help from Rusty Bailey, Adam Caveness and Ken Martin), has a varied roster.

Some players are in their first year, while a chunk played for last year’s 9-10 District All-Star champs, who were coached by Mimi Johnson.

Headlining the team are four veterans who will move up to the next level after this season — Scout Smith, Marenna Rebischke-Smith, Emma Mathusek and Emma Somes.

"Hi, my name's McKenzie Bailey and I'll be your new ruler." (John Fisken photos)

“Hi, my name’s McKenzie Bailey and I’ll be your new Photo Queen.” (John Fisken photos)

"Um, what now?"

Mollie

“You’re both goin’ down, you old farts!!!” Surprise twist! Third sister Mollie Bailey is the real Photo Queen!!!! Or is she? Stay tuned… (Shelli Trumbull photo)

There’s a coup in progress.

For the last four years (at least), Coupeville High School senior McKayla Bailey has been the undisputed Photo Queen of Wolf sports.

Ruling with an iron fist, a willingness to pose from dusk til dawn and an uncanny ability to always know where the camera is, she’s been the gold standard here at Coupeville Sports.

But we need to acknowledge something.

Little sis McKenzie Bailey is making her move for the top.

Her game is strong, has been for awhile, and is just getting stronger.

And now, with tennis season kicking off, McKenzie is launching a full-bore assault on the throne.

But you know what they said on The Wire (sorta) — you come for the queen, you better not miss.

Bailey vs. Bailey. Who you got?

Lathom Kelley promises to hit his serve, then run like mad, somersault over the net and return the ball himself while doing a handstand. I wouldn’t bet against him.

But, in the end, there can only be one. Champion, that is. Senior pride, baby.

The volleyball skills? Variable.

The outfits? Magnifi-freakin’-cent.

Putting class honor on the line, Coupeville High School’s best and brightest took to the court Wednesday for Top Gun, where Wolf volleyball players coach their male counterparts.

Snapping away, catching all the madness, was Shelli Trumbull, who provides us with the pics residing above.

Her eyeballs may never recover.
