Coupeville is going to the big time.

Wolf senior-to-be Lyla Stuurmans made the cut and was tabbed as one of 12 players named to the U19 Puget Sound Region All-Star volleyball squad.

That team travels to Des Moines, Iowa July 16-22 for the USA Volleyball All-Star tournament, where it will clash with rivals from other regions.

Lyla Stuurmans is one of three Wolf spikers who made the first cut in qualifying for the travel squad.

Fellow senior Mia Farris was a finalist for the U19 team as well, while Lyla’s younger sister, incoming freshman Tenley, is currently competing for a roster spot with the U15 team.

That squad will be announced next week.

Lyla is proof players from small schools can make a big impact, as her new teammates hail from bigger programs such as Archbishop Thomas Murphy, Bellevue Christian, Juanita, Meadowdale, and Arlington.

The weather improved, and Coupeville High School’s new tennis courts got finished. (Timothy Stelling photos)

They’re done, and they’re beautiful.

Lousy weather slowed things down, but just in time for the end of the school year, Coupeville High School has its new tennis courts in place.

The four playing surfaces, paid for by the district’s capital projects fund, are located between the CHS gym and the school’s softball fields.

Caleb Meyer looks for an opening in the defense. (Sarah Flay photo)

One final honor as he hits the road.

Coupeville’s Caleb Meyer was named Wednesday to the All-Academic team by the Northwest Athletic Conference.

The former Wolf, now a Skagit Valley College grad as well, compiled a 3.55 GPA while playing basketball for the Cardinals.

To be eligible for the list, an athlete needed to be a sophomore, have a minimum of 36 credits earned and notch at least a 3.25, which Meyer easily cruised past.

After finishing his run in Coupeville, where he was a key member on Wolf basketball and track teams, the heir to the Videoville legacy suited up for two seasons of hardwood action at SVC.

The Cardinals went 26-6 during Meyer’s sophomore season and finished 43-18 during his time on campus.

They’re movin’ on up.

Coupeville’s eighth graders officially move into high school life Wednesday, June 10, when they participate in a passages ceremony.

The event will be held in the school’s performing arts center and kicks off at 6:00 PM.

While this pack of Wolves are changing their schooling status, several of them have already made their debuts as high school athletes, playing basketball, softball, and baseball for CHS while still attending school at CMS.

Issabel Johnson celebrates her big day. (Jackie Saia photo)

Joy was the word of the day.

As the members of the Coupeville High School Class of 2024 received diplomas Saturday and bid farewell to their prairie school days, a trio of photographers captured the moment on film.

There was accomplishment, pride, and, most of all, joy.
