   Coupeville’s varsity girls, seeking a fourth-straight league title, have no time for your shenanigans.

It’s every grandma’s favorite event – picture day.

Wanderin’ photo man John Fisken slid by the Coupeville High School gym recently to snag individual and group shots of every Wolf player in attendance.

Then he was nice enough to slip me a bunch of them.

Along with four team photos, and two collections of seniors, I used a random number generator to pluck two head-shots for use.

That means Ema Smith and Sage Downes beat the odds. So, they got that going for them, which is nice.

It all starts with a dribble.

Basketball success is predicated on many factors, but owning strong ball-handling skills is pretty high on the list.

As three-time defending Olympic League champs, the Coupeville High School girls squad knows that and embraces it.

Working under the guidance of longtime hoops gurus David and Amy King, the Wolves worked on building their game from the ground floor up during the early days of practice.

I’ve written a lot of words here on Coupeville Sports, but I realize where my page hits really come from.

Photos. Photos. And, yes, more photos.

Whether snapped by Shelli Trumbull or John Fisken or David Stern or any of a thousand Wolf moms (and dads), glossy pics are the real power behind the throne.

So, as we head into a new sports season, I decided to take a quick look back at the one which just finished, and do something I haven’t done before — pick my favorite pics.

These 10 aren’t necessarily the ones which got the most clicks (team photos are always a magnet), and they don’t cover every fall sport.

But, at this moment, they are some of my personal favorites — ones which I think capture the essence of high school sports in a special way.

So, which one do you like the most? Let me know.

Our poll for the “Photo of the Fall” kicks off at 7 PM Sunday and goes 48 hours, ending at 7 PM Tuesday.

Vote as often as you like. Wild West rules, no restrictions whatsoever.

What does the winner get? A nice warm glow in their chest(s), so, they got that going for them, which is nice.

   “I don’t know, buddy. Do you think you can run faster than I can throw?!?” Kyle Rockwell contemplates starting an impromptu game of dodge-ball.

   Sometimes, Joey Lippo likes to put superglue on his hand before practice, just to mess with everyone. True story.

The gym is open, the basketball is hitting the hardwood and the camera is clicking.

Wanderin’ photo man John Fisken slid by an early Coupeville High School boys hoops practice and caught the Wolves as they start to find their groove under new coach Brad Sherman.

The Wolf boys open on the road, traveling to Blaine Nov. 29, then play at home Dec. 1 against Mount Vernon Christian.

Coupeville will spend very little time on the bus in the early part of the season, with 9 of its first 12 at home.

One of those road games is just down the Island in Langley, making things even better.

Of course, that early home-heavy schedule means the Wolves will close with six of their last eight on the road.

For now, though, those Jan. bus trips are a long ways off, and the focus is strictly on their own gym.

Before every new high school sports season begins, photo day is a time-honored ritual.

John Fisken hoists his camera and madly clicks away, getting a pic of every girl and boy who will be in uniform for the Wolves — or at least every one who remembers to show up for photo day.

Then he’s nice enough to send them my way.

As the season progresses, I sprinkle those portraits across the top of numerous stories.

But, without fail, especially during a busy season like fall, with volleyball, tennis, soccer, cheer and football, there will be some which haven’t seen the light of day.

So, today, I offer up a mixture of portraits, which, for whatever reason, haven’t had their moment in the spotlight until now.

Sort of spring cleaning, just in late fall.
