“I know purple and gold are not really my colors. It is what it is.”

Coupeville’s football future is hard at work up in the big city.

With no youth football program of its own, the home of the Wolves sends its young gridiron warriors to Oak Harbor.

Nine Coupeville kids are currently suiting up in the Oak Harbor Football and Cheer League, spread across three divisions.

Future Wolves include:

Daylon Chapel  (Pee Wee Gold)
Joseph Cuaresma  (Pee Wee Gold)
Hunter Bronec  (Midget Purple)
Hurlee Bronec  (Midget Purple)
Logan Downes  (Midget Gold)
Gabriel Reed  (Midget Gold)
Wyatt Howard  (Midget Gold)
Tyson Bovee (Seniors)
Dominic Ricci (Seniors)

The league kicked off its season with a jamboree in Burlington-Edison Saturday, with regular play set to start this coming weekend.

Travelin’ photo whiz kid John Fisken hit the road to send back pics from the jamboree, including the two seen above.

To gaze upon all his work (and possibly purchase some glossy pics for displaying on the mantle) bounce over to:

Fresh, fragrant polyurethane as far as the eye can see. (John Fisken photos)

track

And from another angle.

track

A third angle?!?! Sure, why not.

long view

And the long view, looking down across the football field.

You can practically smell the new polyurethane just by looking at the photos.

Once you get done trying to scratch and sniff through your computer or phone screen, you can sit back and let the excitement bubble.

The lanes aren’t marked yet, but Coupeville High School’s new track oval continues to come more into focus with each new day.

When it’s finished, the eye-popping new orange(?) ring, which replaces the old, cracked black one, will once again allow CHS to host track meets.

The school is 17 days away from the first home football game of the new school year (Sept. 3 vs. South Whidbey), so expect finishing the track to be job #1 for everyone between now and then.

You could say they’re … racing … to finish.

Or you could not.

Tell Mckenzie Meyer cheer is not a sport (something I would NEVER do),  and she will break you in half.

team

Strong with spirit, they are.

No rest for the cheer warriors.

Coupeville High School cheerleaders were hard at work Wednesday morning, fine-tuning their routines in advance of the start of a new football season.

The Wolves will take to the sidelines for the first time Sept. 3, when CHS hosts South Whidbey in the Battle for The Bucket.

By then, Coupeville’s loudest ‘n proudest will be a well-oiled machine, honed to a razor edge by coach Cheridan Eck.

Falcon fans will never know what hit ’em.

Unleash the air horns of doom.

They came, they saw, they ran the heck out of the course.

Coupeville High School’s annual Race the Reserve drew in 275 runners (and one wildly-snapping paparazzi) Saturday, helping raise bucks to fund graduation night festivities for the Class of 2017.

Wolf alum Andre Stone zipped to a win in the 5K, crossing the finish line in 17 minutes, 5.06 seconds, while Singh Navdeep (45:32.5) and Ryan Prachnau (1:19:56.3) took home titles in the 10K and half marathon respectively.

Along for the run, camera in hand, was intrepid clicker John Fisken, who was nice enough to provide us with the photos above.

Lauren Rose (left) and Hilkey break up the monotony of stretching with a little high-five time.

The schedule lies.

I lit a fire under wanderin’ paparazzi John Fisken by promising him three separate practices/open gyms were listed on the Coupeville schools web site for Tuesday.

Turns out only 33% of that schedule actually came true, as Wolf cheerleaders and boys basketball players were nowhere to be seen, despite what the schedule might have indicated.

But, the CHS spikers were back at it, putting in off-season work, just like they promised.

So, they get all the camera time.

All of it, I said!
