Sarah Wright

Joey Lippo

Robin Cedillo

As Ron Wright maps out strategy, Rockin’ Robin Cedillo, moments before she scored, is secretly singing AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” to herself.

Wednesday was all about the wins.

And the photos. Always about the photos.

With both Coupeville High School’s baseball and softball squads rallying to crack Concrete, travelin’ photo man John Fisken had plenty of action to snap.

team

Silhouetted against the prairie (and the ever-present rain clouds), new Wolf softball coaches Kevin and Justine McGranahan enjoy a quiet moment with their easily-excitable squad.

The prairie was poppin’ Monday.

Despite the ever-present threat of rain (it never fully arrived) and wind (mostly absent for once), all three Coupeville High School sports teams in action were able to put an (almost) full day in.

The Wolf softball and baseball squads dropped close contests to Sultan, while the CHS netters were drubbing 2A Granite Falls when their courts got too slippery to continue.

Madly bouncing around from site to site, travelin’ photo man John Fisken snapped away, and the pics above are courtesy him.

Spring is officially sprung.

Rain drops fell (of course) but a new season of Coupeville High School sports kicked off Friday afternoon, with the Wolf boys’ soccer squad hosting a jamboree.

South Whidbey, Lake Stevens and Skyline were in town and all the booting drew the attention of wanderin’ photo man John Fisken.

Having clicked away between the splatters of liquid sunshine, the photos above are courtesy him.

No matter how early in the morning it might be, Caleb Meyer is always enthusiastic about playing defense.

The future is out there, working every weekend.

Coupeville’s SWISH boys’ basketball squads continue to put in work, with both the 7th and 8th grade teams playing Saturday.

The 7th grade team (which is actually a 50-50 split between 6th and 7th graders) finished fourth at a regular season-ending tournament.

The Wolves upended Ferndale 30-28, then lost close battles against Sultan and Oak Harbor, which came to battle with deep rosters chock full of older players.

In the win, Matthew Kelley dropped in 12 points, snatched five rebounds, dealt out two assists and pilfered three steals.

Jake Mitten pounded away for 11 points and five boards, while Daniel Olson (4), Caleb Meyer (2) and Connor Barton (1) also scored.

Daniel Barajas made off with two steals, Hawthorne Wolfe snatched two rebounds and Logan Martin, Alex Jimenez and Dakota Eck all saw playing time.

The 7th grade squad travels to Spokane next weekend, where they’ll close the season with an appearance at the state tourney.

As the two squads were playing Saturday, travelin’ photo man John Fisken wiled away the hours, avoiding the sunlight in service of Wolf parents.

The photos above are courtesy him.

The weather is fluctuating (as usual) but the enthusiasm is not being dampened.

Coupeville High School athletes officially slid into a new season Monday, with the first day of practice for spring sports.

Basketballs are put away (for the most part) and the focus is now on tennis, soccer, baseball, track and softball, with the Wolves plowing through the beginning of two weeks of prep work before they start playing games that count again.

Wandering around outside Thursday, travelin’ photo man John Fisken snapped pics of four of those sports in action for us, and we’ll try and catch up to tennis as soon as possible.

For now, marinate in your first glimpses of spring, in all its athletic glory.
