If you plan it, they will volunteer.

Coupeville High School athletes showed up strong Saturday for Race the Reserve, the biggest fundraiser for the CHS senior class.

Wolf volleyball came with a big crew, but ultimately it was the CHS cheer squad which topped all fall sports teams in terms of total volunteers.

For their efforts, Jennifer Morrell’s cheerleaders captured the “Golden Shoe Award,” and will also snag an assortment of homemade cookies.

Do it for the thrill of competition.

Do it for the glow of being #1.

Do it for the homemade cookies.

But whatever you do it for, just do it.

With Race the Reserve — the biggest fundraiser for the Coupeville High School Class of 2023 — set for Saturday, Aug. 13, organizers are scrambling to field a full team of volunteers.

They’ve launched a competition between Wolf fall sports teams, with the team with the most volunteers nabbing the Golden Shoe Award and a batch of cookies from acclaimed cook Helene Lhamon.

It’s a royal rumble between volleyball, soccer, tennis, cross country, and football, with a tasty finale.

Many hands make light the work.

The runners are coming, and so are the fundraising opportunities.

The annual Ragnar Relay, which sends teams from Blaine to Langley over the course of two days and a night, kicks off today.

As the runners descend like locusts on Whidbey, the Coupeville High School Class of 2023 is taking advantage.

Students, parents, and other volunteers will be selling breakfast to participants, with profits going to post-graduation festivities.

The Class of 2023 is also helping flag traffic in Langley from 1:30-8:30 PM Saturday and is still in need of more volunteers.

Completing that task will garner an $850 donation for the CHS students.

Tasty treats await basketball players during the 2017 Hoopaholics event at Coupeville High School. (Amy King photo)

If you volunteer, they will play.

After a long pandemic pause, Hoopaholics is planning a return to Coupeville this summer, with a weekend of basketball and fellowship set for June 17-19.

The event, which draws numerous adult hoops players to Camp Casey and the Coupeville High School gym, needs a fair number of hands to make sure everything runs right.

Amy Briscoe is looking for volunteers who are interested in things such as food prep, baking, scorekeeping, and laundry services.

If you’re a veteran of past Hoopaholics events, great. If you’re a first timer, no worries.

“I would love some veterans, and I would also love to meet some new people!” Briscoe said.

The three-day event is a financial boon both for businesses in Coupeville, and the CHS basketball programs, as Hoopaholics donates to support Wolf basketball players.

For more info, or to volunteer, contact Briscoe at (360) 632-2229.
