Wrappin’ up the stats!!

Welcome back to contentious corner, for the final time.

Tracking football stats is a tricky business, especially when multiple people are recording said info.

So, as I present the season-ending stat totals for Coupeville High School’s gridiron squad, keep in mind, I’m just the messenger.

I can stand behind some stats (touchdowns, PATS, interceptions, etc.) with rock-solid faith.

With a few others which involve yardage or tackle totals, I understand the arguments on both sides, but this is what I have been given.

If there’s someone out there with more football knowledge than me, and a HUDL password, feel free to go review the last nine weeks of film and tell me what you see.

Until then, here’s our best guess.

Get your photo fix with fall pics!!

The final batch.

At the start of the fall sports season, candid camera clicker John Fisken shot portraits of virtually every Coupeville High School athlete.

While a few Wolves were missing on their photo day, he managed to capture a solid 98.6% of those who turned out for soccer, cheer, cross country, tennis, volleyball and football.

And, over the course of the season, I managed to run just about every one of the portraits he sent me.

Today’s group, consisting of four cheerleaders, four spikers and one gridiron warrior, brings my mission to an end.

So with that, it’s on to winter, where, with just basketball, both of our jobs will take a lot less time and effort.

Playoff fever rages!!

Wolf fans jam the bleachers.

It’s edge of your seat time.

With every fall sport having wrapped regular season play, we’re fully into playoff mode.

10 North Sound Conference teams are still alive for a state title, though the only one we truly care about on this blog is the Coupeville volleyball squad.

Having split two matches at the district tourney Saturday, the Wolf spikers sit a win away from advancing to bi-districts.

That match arrives Tuesday, when CHS travels to Lynden to face Nooksack Valley.

King’s (volleyball, football, soccer) and South Whidbey (VB, FB, soccer) account for six of the other nine squads still alive in the playoffs.

Meanwhile, Cedar Park Christian is alive in football and soccer and Granite Falls is still kicking in football, though Tiger soccer, which tied for second-place in the NSC, is the highest seed to have been knocked out of the postseason.

Sultan, with every team eliminated, gets ready for winter sports.

While the gridiron was awash with football action Thursday, life in the stands (and the concession booth) offered its own vibrant swirl of tales.

Wanderin’ paparazzi John Fisken snapped away, documenting life with the support crew, from fans to band members to hot dog sellers to fellow photographers, all united by being caught in the camera’s eye.

Even a person who is pure in heart and says their prayers by night, may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms and the autumn moon is bright…

The schedule change worked out nicely.

With the final Coupeville High School football game moved up from Friday to Thursday at the last second, it gave wanderin’ camera clicker John Fisken a rare chance to shoot Wolf gridiron action.

As the father of an Oak Harbor senior lineman, he’s normally camped out at Wildcat games on Friday nights.

But this time, as the Wolves clashed with Granite Falls, Fisken was front and center, working the sidelines and madly clicking away.
