On to the next season.

With Coupeville Middle School girls’ basketball having wrapped its season Monday, the countdown begins for spring sports to reach CMS.

That means track season, and the Wolves will be competing against new opponents this year.

Any connection with the Cascade Conference (and traditional rival Langley) is long gone, which means Coupeville, which can’t host a meet on its about-to-be-ripped-up-track, will travel off-Island for all its meets.

The first day of practice is Monday, April 11.

After that, the Wolves have a five-meet schedule:

Wed-Apr. 27 @ Stevens
Wed-May 4 @ Blue Heron (Port Townsend)
Tue-May 10 @ Sequim
Tue-May 17 @ Stevens
Wed-May 25 @ League Meet (Blue Heron MS)

P.S. — That schedule has flipped and flopped so many times in the last couple of weeks, it’s left me dizzy.

Best bet?

Keep popping over to the school’s website (maybe on an hourly basis) to keep track of any more movement:

Everyone in this pyramid can return this season. Top: Sylvia Hurlburt. Middle: Jared Helmstadter, Makana Stone. Bottom: (l to r) Lathom Kelley, Dalton Martin, Mitchell Losey.

These might be the Coupeville High School schedules you’re looking for.

Maybe.

You never know, as high school sports schedules, especially in the spring, are notorious for being ever-changing beasts.

As we sit six days out from the first day of practice for a new season (Monday, Feb. 29), I can say I’m at least 84.7% confident in what’s below.

Of course, even if these schedules stay exactly as they look now, weather is likely to play its usual role in reshaping things as we go forward.

But, as we wait for everything to play out, this is at least a start.

Maybe don’t laminate the schedules yet, though…

Fall sports are not quite done yet, but basketball is lurking just around the corner.

Roundball action returns Monday, Nov. 16, when Coupeville High School coaches David King, Amy King, Anthony Smith and Dustin Van Velkinburgh welcome players to the first day of practice.

If the current schedules hold, the Wolf boys will kick off the season two weeks later with a road game on Nov. 30, and the first home hoops action will come in the form of a doubleheader against South Whidbey Dec. 2.

Wolf fans are currently scheduled to get five 2-for-1 deals, with home doubleheaders against South Whidbey, Orcas Island, La Conner, Mount Vernon Christian and Chimacum.

As always, high school sports schedules are almost constantly in flux. Especially before we actually get to the season.

Basketball begins again.

Well, in a week it does.

Next Monday, Nov. 9, Coupeville Middle School boys’ hoops hotshots get a head start on everyone with their first day of practice.

CMS girls start Feb. 1, after the boys are done, while the high school squads kick off practice Nov. 16.

The CMS boys, who are coached by Bob Martin (8th) and Randy King (7th), are set to kick off game play the last day of November, with a 10-game schedule.

The Wolves will be home on Mondays this season (action tips off at 3:15) and hit the road Thursdays, with two games each against five opponents.

When the girls take over in February they’ll flip the schedule, with road games on Mondays and home games Thursday.

I would tell you to laminate the schedules, but, if the past is any kind of reliable indication, it might be better to write the dates down with a pencil and keep a big eraser handy.

To keep up to date on any changes, pop over to: http://coupeville.tandemcal.com/

The schedules as they appear today:

CMS boys:

Mon-Nov. 30 Chimacum
Thur-Dec. 3 @ Port Townsend
Mon-Dec. 7 Forks
Thur-Dec. 10 @ Stevens
Mon-Dec. 14 Sequim
Thur-Dec. 17 @ Chimacum
Mon-Jan. 4 Port Townsend
Thur-Jan. 7 @ Forks
Mon-Jan. 11 Stevens
Thur-Jan. 14 @ Sequim

CMS girls:

Mon-Feb. 22 @ Port Townsend
Thur-Feb. 25 Forks
Mon-Feb. 29 @ Stevens
Thur-Mar. 3 Sequim
Mon-Mar. 7 @ Chimacum
Thur-Mar. 10 Port Townsend
Mon-Mar. 14 @ Forks
Thur-Mar. 17 Stevens

CHS senior Christine Fields is looking for her fourth straight trip to state.

Nothing is set in stone.

With that said, here’s a peek at what we, kinda, sorta, think might (possibly) be the spring sports schedules for Coupeville High School and its five athletic teams (plus lone Wolf golfer Christine Fields, who practices and travels with South Whidbey.)

And yes, the first day of practice (Monday, March 2) is just five days away, with games set to start about two weeks later, but don’t expect the schedules to be 100% all there.

What we’re currently seeing is 17 games for softball and 19 for baseball, and both squads can go 20 games, so it’s possible deals are still being worked out.

And boys’ soccer? There’s currently a four-week stretch between Mar. 25 and Apr. 23 where the Wolves have exactly ONE GAME scheduled.

As always in recent years, what might seem a misprint is not — CHS track will spend its entire season on the road, as the school’s track oval awaits an upgrade.

So, keeping all of that in mind (and also realizing that spring, with potential rain, is the trickiest of all seasons in which to keep a schedule intact), here’s what we know as of this morning:
