The action was hopping, on the oval and off.

Coupeville High School hosted the District 1 Track and Field Championships Saturday, bringing a metric ton of athletes, coaches, fans, and volunteers out to frolic in the sun.

Wanderin’ photographer John Fisken, in between snapping pics of various races and field events, also turned his camera on the sidelines, as shown in the pics seen above and below.

Saturday started dank and dark but ended in bright sunshine and Gatorade bath celebrations.

Competing in their home stadium, the Coupeville High School track and field team dominated at the District 1 Championships, claiming 15 wins and setting 37 PR’s.

The cherry on top was a team title for the Wolf boys, as they crushed La Conner and Friday Harbor to finish first among 2B schools.

Coupeville’s girls were nipped by La Conner, while Mount Vernon Christian won both the boys and girls team titles on the 1B side of things.

Aidan Wilson (400, 800, triple jump) claimed three individual titles, topping all Wolves, while Logan Martin (shot put, discus) and Caleb Meyer (100, 200) also made multiple trips to the top of the podium.

Other CHS winners included Lyla Stuurmans (400), Cameron Epp (3200), Carolyn Lhamon (discus), Dominic Coffman (high jump), Mitchell Hall (1600), and Ryanne Knoblich (high jump).

Both of Coupeville’s 4 x 100 relay units won as well.

Everyone who finished in first Saturday clinched a trip to Bi-Districts May 20 at W.F. West High School in Chehalis, the last stop before the state meet.

The Wolves will also be sending other competitors as well, but the total number is in flux as three different leagues finalize their results.

For now, Coupeville athletes, coaches, and fans can bask in the afterglow of Saturday’s performance.

“It was a beautiful day! So many awesome moments!” said CHS girls coach Elizabeth Bitting.

Call them road warriors.

Surviving a trip to Lakewood Wednesday, the Coupeville Middle School track and field team thrived during a four-team meet.

The Wolves, facing off with Sultan, Northshore Christian Academy, and the meet hosts, captured three wins and 69 PR’s as action unfolded.

CMS 6th grader Lillian Ketterling, who claimed first-place in the 800, joined 8th graders Malachi Somes (1600) and Adrian Cunningham (long jump) in making it to the top of the podium.

Coupeville also nabbed nine second-place showings, with four of those runner-up performances coming in relay races.

Fresh off their strong performance, the Wolves return home, hosting their next meet May 18.

That event will bring South Whidbey, Granite Falls, and Northshore to town.

Coupeville football legend Sean Toomey-Stout will tackle you if you don’t have a ticket. Spoiler: It will probably hurt. (Photo by JohnsPhotos.net)

It’s the third most important meet of the season.

Coupeville High School hosts the District 1 track and field championships Saturday, May 14 — the stepping-stone to Bi-Districts and the state meet.

Things will be hoppin’, with 12 teams — three 2B schools and nine 1B ones — competing.

Cedar Park Christian-Lynnwood, Fellowship Christian, Grace Academy, Lopez Island, Lummi Nation, Mount Vernon Christian, Providence Classical Christian, Shoreline Christian, and Concrete round out the 1B field.

On the 2B side, it’s Coupeville, La Conner, and Friday Harbor.

Field events begin at 11 AM, with running events kicking off a half-hour later.

Making it even more of a festive occasion, the CHS concession stand will be open for business all day.

But, and this is important — for the first time this season you’ll have to pay to attend a track meet, and you can’t do so with cash.

Spectators have to enter through the main entrance at Mickey Clark Field, which sits right behind Coupeville Elementary (6 S. Main).

The back entrance by the baseball field is reserved for athletes and coaches.

Tickets have to be purchased online through GoFan, and you’ll need your phone to show your ticket(s).

No cash sales will take place.

Admission prices:

Adults and students without ASB — $7
Children (5-12) — $5
Senior citizen (62+) — $5
Student with ASB — $5

To purchase tickets, pop over to:

https://gofan.co/app/events/612390?schoolId=WA86277
